from what i’ve read about perelman and what he’s said, he seemed to be pretty fucking blackpilled on the math community. he pointed out the immorality of mathematicians stealing others work being rampant, the fact that many awards focus too much on particular people who do small contributions on top of others’ work and those others get no recognition, and the phenomenon where highly awarded mathematicians tend to become “dancing monkeys” or some russian idiom like that where they just become stupid media talking head celebrities (ahem Villani)

Perelman is actually really fucking awesome. if anything his life story echoes Grothendieck in a lot of ways, the absolute legend of legends
