this chart is fucking retarded; the skillset that makes a good mathematician is entirely different than the skillset that makes a good theoretical physicist that makes a good experimentalist. this absolutely shit lists implies that somehow, gauss, a math man, is somehow gooder at math than faraday is good at experimental physics. in one image you have epitomized "soience", you have successfully idolized these men IN ASTONISHINGLY DIFFERENT FIELDS into some abstract hierarchy following whatever godforsaken mental illness plagues you.

He is someone every scientist should look up to as the archetypal scientist and provides a great role model and he was a revolutionary thinker. I just don't think he was quite on the level of those guys. Faraday is immortal but can I put him there with Einstein, Gauss (who contributed to magnetics without even being involved in it too much of an extent), Newton, Schrodinger. tesla wasn't THAT smart, he thought he was a genius because his autism allowed him to think in detailed images and he spent most of his time on inventions that were really totally useless. only a couple of his inventions like the induction motor actually ended up having real influence. maybe he doesn't deserve D tier though I just think he is way overrated in part because of how much he talked himself up. Newton's empirical perspective has given him a big edge on Leibniz in terms of influence, but in terms of sheer reasoning power Leibniz btfos Newton in every way and his prescience is astounding what with his obsession with binary, the characteristica universalis, and his defense of relative space and if you expand the criteria to include philosophy and linguistics besides just science and math then Leibniz unquestionably stomps. Leibniz created a shit ton of ideas that are still relevant today while Newton was still obsessed with alchemy and occultism. Leibniz was also the first to begin advancing the field of logic again since Aristotle.

obviously Newton's influence is astronomical compared to Leibniz so I will never get anyone to place him above Newton but imo he is the smartest man who ever lived by virtue of his breadth, originality and prescience

Galileo was a brainlet who couldnt solve basic math. He failed at:
- Calculating the area of a cycloid
- Postulating that the circumference is the curve of fastest descent instead of the brachistochrone curve
- Identifying the catenary curve with the parabola
- Computing how long it would take for the moon to fall to earth
- Identifying the curve of a falling object in a rotating coordinate system as a semicircle
- Thinking that the air resistance doesn't increase with speed
- His whole theory of pendulums is garbage
- Thinking tides were caused by the motion of earth
- Calculating the constant of gravitational acceleration

Mersenne and Newton disproved most of the Galileo's mathematical claims. Mersenne should replace Galileo's spot in the S tier.

how come theres nobody who produced anything of tangible value on the image? was einstein too smart to produce anything that anyone wanted or needed? if he was so smart, how come he wasted his brains producing nothing of any value during his lifetime in science?
samuel morse isn't listed because he wasn't a scientist, nevermind inventing telegraphy. carl benz isn't listed, he only invented the automobile.
what did einstein ever do other than get high huffing his own farts? most of you reading this today wouldn't have survived childhood without antibiotics, antibiotics were invented during einstein's lifetime, he didn't do a thing to help, but somehow or other he is the famous science genius while the guy who invented the single most potent and effective medication in all of history is a forgotten nobody. no wright brothers, no edison. oliver evans invented refrigeration, none of you have ever heard of him, but you'll all be enjoying his invention this summer while you're busy showing off your scientific knowledge by admiring einstein on the internet. evans was unlucky enough to be born white so nobody cares about him. joseph jacquard invented punch card computing, but he was heterosexual so you'll never hear about him.

thats a deceptively selected excerpt of an english translation, however it still show that galileo was convicted of heresy because he was unwilling for voice support for established church dogma alongside his own rhetoric as he was instructed to do by the pope during the period in which the church leaders were considering the meaning of galileo's discoveries.
it was essentially the same crime that got moses barred from the holy land, the church leaders would have been committing heresy themselves if they did not convict him. galileo put his bosses in the position where they had to choose between committing heresy and convicting galileo, they rightfully chose to trust god before galileo. if galileo wasn't as insistent and defiant as he was then he would not have been convicted, but instead he chimped out and tried to usurp the pope's power and alter established dogma on his own with no authority to do so.
the "galileo as victim" narrative is a false one that has been circulated by anti-church political activists for a long time, that narrative will always be false, it will always be contradicted by the trial documents and all the rest of the primary evidence.
things tend to end in rejection for nonconformists who demand acceptance and who also refuse to make any concessions to gain their acceptance, if galileo has been more level headed then he would have been able to avoid committing heresy, but that is not how history played out.

If the Catholic Church leaders of the time were faithful in God and understood the Bible they would know God only sends us information we are capable of understanding or meant to understand at the time. They would understand that God put these discoveries in the mind of Galilieo. They would also understand that to have faith in God means knowing that he will restore things into order if it is wrong and not trusting your own judgements. They had turned into the modern pharasees of the time.
