What are we doing? What’s the point of studying and researching math if it’s literally all fake?

There are a minority of people who study mathematics who are formalists and think of math primarily as a language game rather than the study as something "real." There are reasonable criticisms of formalism but it's a perfectly respectable philosophy. Personally I study mathematics for fun. As a Cyrenaic I don't find mathematics any "higher" than wine, women and song. I simply have bookish preferences. The study of say the Look and say sequence is of no higher value than the games of child. Mathematics is meaningless and I do it for fun.

Ok woman. I'll care about your opinion as much as you deserve (I won't care!)

So essentially your philosophical/intellectual temperament is that of a house cat.

I think of myself more like a hamster than a house cat personally.
I like going out to the pond and watching the ducks.
Sometimes I have a brief urge to snatch a songbird as it flutters away.
I'm not very sneaky though.

Math by itself is all fake and made up, just like chess is all fake and made up.
However, through analogy and philosophy, math can be a good model for some situations and can also be a source of valuable insights.

It's actually possible to mix one liter of one chemical with one liter of another chemical, and end up with less than two liters of mixture. I learned this in high school chemistry.

Its because today's scientists are now nothing more than mathematicians. Expecting everything to fit into the equations they made, even though math only describes not explains.

I remember reading that, its called negative deviation from Raults law in case of non ideal solutions iirc.

this, its the same with other things like art. In theory its really meaningless on its own but in tandem with something like philosophy its more than just a game we humans play it becomes dignified

This has been settled already. 2+2=4 represents an outdated "white" point of view. The modern mathematician rejects the colonial and patriarchal concept of a single right solution. Instead mathematics needs to listen to people of color, latinX, transgender and LGBTQIA+. Each has their uniquew view, enriching mathematics with valuable new input.

Mathematics is very well diverse, and, as long as a system makes "sense" in some way it will be studied. You could say the same about Euclidean Geometry being "all fake", but for the same reason there are countless geometry models suitable in the context where it makes sense. Even it there's no real-world known scenario in which they make sense, as long as it is "logically coherent enough" in some way then we as mathematicians accept it.

So, how about
[math][2]_{2} + [2]_2 = [2]_2[/math]?

And let's not forget that the equality
[math]1+2+4+8+16+\cdots =-1 [/math]
applies in [math](\mathbb{Q}_p, \mid \cdot \mid _p[/math]

yeah, it really makes no sense. 2 raindrops on a windshield flow together. 2=1. even though I really like the idea behind your thread i still rate it 0/10 because from the thumbnail it looked like the girl was wearing pantyhose + skirt, but it turned out to be pants instead.

Because it works better than anyone expected, hence Einstein's quip "unreasonable effectiveness of mathematics"

I know. I have 1 apple, put it together with another 1 apple, and end up with millions, maybe even trillions, of atoms!
