I think this is called the "founder effect" in evolution, where whatever unusual traits of the founding population are highly represented in its decedents simply for being its descendants and not for any fitness or selection reason.

Looking it up, genetic tests put modern Japanese at about 7/8th Yayoi, 1/8th Jomon. Though interestedly about 30% of Japanese men have a Jomon derived Y chromosome, more than you would expect from total mixture. Anyways, that 1/8th Jomon is still enough to make noticable difference in appearance, making most Japanese pretty easy to distinguish from Koreans and Chinese. Also probably why Japanese women are more attractive.

Like I am sure you would be selected out of the population if you had no arms, but that doesnt mean there is a big selection effect on having unusually long or short arms.

But it should be obvious that there isnt a lot of selection on nose shape because if there was then nose shape would be highly correlated with activity requirements, humidity, and temperature, but you'll see obvious regional nose differences that have nothing to do with those parameters. Like, jews, the french, Germans, and Chinese people all have very different nose shapes, despite being comparable in all the ways you listed (activity level, environmental temperature, environmental humidity).

Japanese sounds good, its not abrupt and not crude like Russian, it flows nicely, just like English.

In Slavic languages, German and Dutch (and many others) sounds that represent the letters have too much contrast, the sounds are also strong and don't flow like in English or Japanese.

I don't know about asian languages but I think the European languages were defined and took one of two directions phonetically once the formal writing was introduced.
Those like English and French where spelling of the word does not represent pronounciation are loosely defined and are more or less passed by hearing, for example very young English speaker may not know how to pronounce new word that he saw in the book and will likely learn the pronounciation from adults by hearing it(and with that will likely pick some of the distinctive accent and pronouncuation of that particualar adult), a slavic speaker can just read an unknown word and it is likely going be a correct pronounciation, this means there will be little to no distinctivness, this will instead make the sounds clearer and more precise as opposed to flowing.
This is why there is so many native English accents and such big difference between them, phonetically English is still evolving faster and in different directions in different countries, but for example Spanish phonetically isn't that much different from latin american Spanish. If you look at slavic languages there is probably less difference how the each sound changed in different languages.

I'm an adult, and I read a lot of scientific terms that I'm only familiar with in print. Unless I bother to actually look up the pronunciation, I internalize an incorrect pronunciation. It can be jarring when I hear the word spoken, it may take a moment to realize "oh, so that's how you say it!"

When I was a kid I learned how to say new words just by reading while English and French speakers can only learn them by hearing and that introduces so many more small variations (and decreases accuracy compared to original or initial sound which over long period of time makes the language more flowing and nice sounding and very suitable for songs, poetry etc.
