Like you do at your job. Conversate about mundane daily subjects with them but don't bother talking about anything in-depth outside economics, travel, animals or food. If you're working closely with a female colleague(s) then just keep it technical. If they try to engage in any controversial subject (and sadly they eventually will) keep it basic.

You don't have to ignore them just don't mix business with pleasure even if they invite you to it (and they will). Women like children feed off of emotion, the trap is not managing those emotions properly.

It's understandable to be nervous about them though. My experience shows that being personally professional doesn't stop them from engaging in unprofessional actions such asking about your love life or bringing up politics

I'm an engineer and I used to be a plasterer, so I've seen both sides. I do earn more now but with the big asterisk on that being it took me 5 years of blowing tens of thousands of savings on school to be able to earn this money. The time and money I wasted doing that is not insignificant. If I had instead continued working full time as a tradesman I would probably be a lot wealthier right now, and I would be years ahead in my plans. Only reason I stopped and went to school was cos I fucked my back up.
Seriously though, every rich fucker in the world atm is telling people college is a waste of time. If making money is your goal, find the quickest way to acquire some and then borrow a bunch and invest it all. Thats the only way to make real money. In the corporate world it is very rewarding putting yourself out there and in front of things. But in the academic world this can backfire tremendously. Just doing your stuff at the minimum or a bit above the minimum should allow you to sail through.
