Physics will get you employment practically anywhere. Defense, materials science, aerospace, economics, its your best bet if you're smart and want to keep your options open.

Right, and they'd first hire engineers than you. Stop deluding yourself.

A physics degree puts you in a position to one day save the world.

>> No.1366220

>>1366207
No, they won't. I've been to career fairs since freshman year. Undergrad school is more or less proof of your ability to learn. What better way to do that than to study the hardest subject available?

Companies hire 4 year degree holders and train them for years anyway. If you can make it through four years of physics, the thought is you can easily grasp the other stuff.

Math == actuary.

>> No.1366273

>>1366220
You really think they give a shit if you studied physics or engineering? if you can show you know your shit, you are hired. There are FAR more engineers in those positions than physicists. 99% of jobs won't use most of the shit you learn (and forget by the time you graduate) in physics/math.

Fuck, even actuaries don't use math anywhere NEAR as compelx as the ones that appear in the tests you have to pass to become an actuary.

The jobs that do are very, very few and far between. Just because physics is "harder" (note the quotation marks) than engineering doesn't mean you will get instan hired.

You are in for a rude awakening once you graduate.

He's referring to the typo that turned "morale" into "morals". Don't worry about it. It's funny, but not as funny as the guy writing it probably hoped it'd be. He shouldn't feel bad about it, though, as the setup was a little awkward for a joke, and he did quite well with what was available. Based on that one joke, I vote we give him all the money that's being thrown at hacks like Dane Cooke and Jeff Dunham.

There isn't really a field worth to mention where only physicists are hired excluding public research.
If you look at job offers, most of search a "master's degree in Engineering/Physics/etc." (don't nail me down on the major names here, can only speak for the german ones).
Applying for a job is much more than the name of your major. You've got to show that you know your stuff and are able to learn.In many fields it's sure an advantage to have an engineering degree and apply for a job in the industry, but that doesn't mean that you can't get these jobs when you're a physicists.

And about the difficulty discussion, cut the butthurt. Again, I can only speak for my country, but the difficulty differs greatly depending on university and the courses you take and there can also be cases where the engineer degree is "harder" than the physics and also the other way round.
