1342523 No.1342523 [Reply] [Original]

Last week I purchased a burger and fries for $3.58.

The counter girl took my $4.00 and I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and
gave it to her. She stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies.

While looking at the screen on her register, I sensed her discomfort and
tried to tell her to just give me two quarters, but she hailed the manager
for help. While he tried to explain the transaction to her, she stood
there and cried.

Why do I tell you this?

Because of the evolution in teaching math since the 1950s.

Teaching Math In 1950:
A
logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production
is 4/5 of the price. What is his profit?

Teaching Math In 1960:
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production
is 4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?

Teaching Math In 1970:
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production
is $80. Did he make a profit?

Teaching Math In 1980:
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production
is $80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.

Teaching Math In 1990:
A logger cuts down a
beautiful forest because he is selfish and
inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the
preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of
$20. What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for class
participation after answering the question: How did the birds and
squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes? (There are no wrong
answers.)

Teaching Math In 2010:
Un ranchero vende una carretera de madera por $100 dlls. El costo de su
produccion era $80 dlls. ¿Cuantos kilos de tortillas se podran comprar con su ganancia si cuestan 82¢ el kilo?

No. Math education has improved. People have always been stupid, and they still are.

I'd like to correct the imagine as an inspiring neurologist.

Liberals most likely have enlarged frontal cortexs (SMARTER THAN THOU PART) and limbic systems (sides of your head) relatively. It would indicate larger emotional responses to emotional stimuli and a larger capability to experience it as if it were happening to them. It would make that type of information more significant -- sort of how red stands out from other colors.

Enjoy.

My information is quite spot on if you are willing to take a week to study. A month or so if you want to know if the information from the text book if true.

EnJoy.

No explanation or counter-argument except to label using jargon without establishing context in order to vaguely refer to supposedly obvious arguments in a condescending tone...

An excellent counter, befitting of your kind. My only criticism was that it was very text-book with no flair of creativity or even an emotional appeal. So, despite the excellent execution, I can only give you a 6/10.

You are a racist, a capitalist pig, a dude that doesn't give a
fuck about the environment, and a retarded retard that feels

In order to pose a counter argument, you must first pose an argument. All I see is a blatantly false anecdote about the history of math education.

>> No.1342580

>>1342563
I could even word your arguments for you. If you were to actually post some arguments instead of sassy bullshit, your post would contain things like "The quality of math education is steadily declining", "Education about the environmental impacts of logging has caused a decline in the quality of math education", and "Teaching Spanish is detrimental to the quality of math education".

Man, I'm posting your arguments for you. I'm not even going to bother with this thread anymore.

>> No.1342581

>>1342570
So, you aren't denying that you are making an argument against them, you are just denying that they made an argument in the first place and thus you didn't make a *counter*-argument? Well, I stand corrected. Thank you.

Tell me though, does your point count as an example of a "strawman" fallacy? It seems that you are enlightening us not only by explanation but by example as well. Thank you.

Where did you go that costed only 3.58 for burgers and fries? Did you not order a drink? Even so, that's pretty cheap.

I'm totally and completely serious right now, that's a damn good deal.

That picture is from a survey that was done with a random sampling of members of A.A.A.S. Being a member doesn't necessarily mean you are a scientist much less a credible scientist. How about we talk to people who are published in peer reviewed journals instead of just members of a society that anybody can join for a fee?

The Lumber Game is where it's at fellas. You see all those "jacked" mexicans and negroid-men running around in fancy cars with hot White women? They seem not to have a job and are seemingly rich? But fucking HOW?!

FUCKING LUMBER.

$100 a fucking LOAD, and your production cost is only 4/5 of your profit. So if you are making $80 profit, and your cost of production was only $64, so you get $36 in ADDITION to your $80 of profit. How do you make $116 on something that originally sold for $100? That is almost 350% profit, and you dumbfucks are slaving away with college degrees for peanuts.
