I once read about QED and feynman's field theory about virtual photons and how charged particles emit and absorb those virtual photons which then causes attraction/repulsion (how magnets work)

Are there other theories about that out there?

No, while there is physics involved in a MHD (technically everything has physics in it), it is just applications.

Hence that is more of a faggot question (engineering). NOT really a physics question (hence I ignored it).

LBE is just a particular way to solve fluid systems (or fluid like systems), this is just math. No one really uses this shit but engineers, again it is all for aplications. It is all very basic (usually numerical) shit.

I reckon you're an mech engineer (a faggot)?

Nice question, Never heard of the term "feynmans field thoery", I think you just mean current QED in general.

Yeah, virtual particles are the particles responsible for any "force" transmission. The photons propogate the EM charge, the W,Z propograte the Weak charge, and the Gluons the strong charge.

As far as QED goes, this thoery has pretty much been proven. QED is one on the best thoeries out there, with thoery and observations in perfect agreement.

Technically, I am sure there are other theories out there, just like some people still believe the earth is flat. But it is pretty much all nonsesne. QED is perfect for its range of validity, and answer all questions it relates to.

The gluon, W, and Z have all been found.
You technically cannot physically find the virtual photon, it would make it non virtual by defintion. But it too is "found".

A problem lies in your understanding of the "found" concept. At the subatomic scale, we do not have to physically isolate and "see" a particle for it to be considered "found". You can gather proof of existence by other means. Isolating subatomic particles is often impossibe.

This is a good book on introductory particle physics. You may need to study alittle regular physics first to be able to understand it though.

Ohh, fuck if anyone knows. I mean we know how gravity work on a grand scale. Einstiens GR has been verified numerous times. On a smale scale though, no one is sure how gravity works.

We assumed like all other forces there must be a force particle (the graviton), but that is basically as far as we got.

The problem is that gravity is so small comapred to all other forces. We can always ignore it in particle physics. Hence we really cant run tests for it in particle physics, not yet anyway.

its all semantics, nothing is ever proven or fact at all. Did you not take basic PHIL? Does the phrase supreme skeptic mean anything to you?

No thing you will ever see, do, speak of , experince, learn, etc, is ever "fact" or "proven"

Yet, to the general public and common speak, they are. You have to dumbshit down when you talk to people, and talk like they do.

Great question

Well, I was under the impression that everyone thought in language, and that more or less couldnt be changed???

In anycase, I guess I would say that sometimes I think in "representations of equations", but this is only if I am really focusing on physics/math. I doubt that too much of the language sector of my brain has been effected.

Sorry,

Not to much to say about it. I actually went to a talk on it about a 6months ago. Pretty interesting, they were suggesting making clothing out of it (all sorts of things actually).

I thought they already have electron confinment? At least that was presented at the talk. Maybe it hasn't been published yet? In anycase, if it is not done already, I would give it 5 years. There is tons of research being done on that stuff.

We have no problem with it, it works fine.

Comercially,
The amount of energy needed to overcome the basic EM forces is quite high, and we have not been unable to really achieve this in a tabletop setting yet. So thats why you don't see this tech being used more often. Overcoming EM forces is a bitch!

>> No.1325113

I've heard a few years ago about a team of scientists that made a material with a negative refraction value, at the x-ray wave length. I didn't understand (and can't really remember) the details, but it was with a 2d chain of magnetic rings, all in a very exact size (several microns in diameter, I think).
The result was an object that made light (well, some parts of the spectrum, at least) go *around* it, making it invisible to those wavelengths.

I heard all this during a presentation at my university (The Technion), and I have failed in finding more information on the subject since. Help?

P.S. Enjoy not having any work. Engineering is where's the money's at, bitch.

Yes, metamaterials are very interesting. Tons of physics research in being done in this field.
Physicist Victor Veselago is actually the father of the subject (metamaterials). I would look up his work, for more info. I am a particle physicist, metamaterials is more optics or condensed matter (hence I cant give you more info).

Good question,

Ok, so EM + Weak are supposed to be unified into the Electroweak. But there are tons of probelms with this, and it ends up looking just like a change of basis rather then an actual unifications (but thats another story).

So, at some energy the EM and Weak forces become one. Back when the universe was hotter, they were one, then they split in two. Some werid shit happened during the split that we are trying to figure out. Of key importance if why the "force" particles have differnt masses. The Higgs is supposed to help explain why the Photon got no mass while the W,Z became massive. Basically how things can aquire mass in this way.

It's about ergosphere. What if a MASSIVE black hole was pulling things around it's Ergosphere at 99.99% of C and it was rotating at nearly C as well. Wouldn't this mean that something in it's Ergosphere would be going faster than C?

Nice question

No, It is all about frames.
The Ergosphere can go faster then the speed of light, Ie framdragging. It is not an object, it is space.

Objects in the Ergosphere still go slower then the speed of light relative to there frame (the ergosphere).

Well, the detectors that are seacrhing for the Higgs measure everything. You don't need to directly observe a partcicle to detect it. The basic things that are measured in partcile physcis are charge, position, and momentum. From that you can infer alot of shit.

Sure, you can't measure both position and momentum to arbitrary accuracy, but that doesn't mean you can't measure both at once, as long as your accuracy on both is limited. One way of measuring momentum (actually, the ratio of charge and momentum) is by putting the detector in a magnetic field and just seeing how much the particle bends with position measurements. Spin is usually inferred from the angular distribution of decay products.
