Arithmetic is all the math you need for almost all economics and if you want to be pedantic, linear differential equations to study the cumulative effect of rates of change (compound interest and so on).

>> No.12801283

My buddy got a masters in economics. The only math he even began to get a grip on was calc I & doing linear regressions.

Economics is a degree you can get put through with knowing absolutely nothing. The lectures are just a formality.

Linear differential equations are also good as a brainlet filter despite minimal use IRL economics

Econometrics is the funniest field I've ever heard of. Not only does it pretend to use math, it also pretends to use science.

What are the difference between economics, finance and actuary?

>> No.12802547

>>12802543
Actuaries know how to do statistics
Finance knows how to manage money
Economists know how to do neither.

Yes it turns out 99% of the abstract bullshit mathematicians study is just that, bullshit designed to get papers to keep their cushy jobs. If you fed all their lemmas and theorems into an automated theorem prover you'd find 99.99% of it is proving the same shit over and over, sometimes but not always phrased differently.

As axioms go, it's downright perverse. Might as well say that unwieldy or absurd fashions don't exist, which is more absurd than most of them are.

Nothing econ, a general rule is the better the job in finance you want the less the degree should prepare you for finance. Also for quants you will need at least MSc or PhD.
Econometrics is good, pure math+stats is better, econ is worthless.
