Got Covid in january, felt like shit for 14 days.
Got my first dose last week as a booster, felt like shit for one day
Will take my second dose at the end of this month, it'll be useless but it'd be stupid to stop now since I could be considered not vaccinated if I don't do it. Can't wait to feel like shit one more day.

But as someone with a medical education that understand viruses, vaccines, side effects, mRNA and the immune system, I don't see any valid reason to be afraid of the vaccine. Don't want to get covid a second time and having to deal with everything smelling and tasting like shit for one month though.

The real question is do the risks of taking a new vaccine outweigh the risks of contracting COVID? The real answer is it depends.

If someone chooses not to vaccinate, then they risk unknown long term effects of COVID. If someone chooses to vaccinate then they risk the unknown long term side effects of the vaccine.

I would much rather take a chance on never catching COVID, and then take another chance on the health effects from it, rather than taking a chance on the unknown side effects of a new vaccine. I choose to take these risks because I am a young healthy person and do not hang around with people with serious health concerns. If I contract the virus I have the ability to quarantine and recover.

With that said, the risks associated with the vaccine may be worth it for those who are financially struggling and cannot work remotely. It may also be worth it to those with serious health concerns and the people around them.

>symptoms are similar but that's the point of testing
That's fine and all, but I still do not like what I am seeing. There are many factors that have me doubting that getting the vaccine this early into an understanding of the virus is a smart idea. I would assume SARS-CoV-2 is far more contagious at this point, both in its ability to spread and infect cells, and a lack of pre-existing immunity compared to influenza.

>We hear a lot that if people just stayed home or stood a mile apart then this would have all been over.
Standing far apart doesn't necessarily help if it really is spreading through aerosols, and different health organizations spent at least six months saying that wasn't even possible. Also, mutations have led to it becoming more and more contagious. The original strain in China wasn't nearly as bad as what hit Europe and the USA, and then variants of those strains have emerged, and on and on. Unfortunately a very large spread means many, many opportunities for mutation.

I know we don't have all the answers yet, but I need something a little better than assumptions. It's a shame about the virus mutating the way it has been, however. If I get the vaccine, what is stopping a stronger, undiscovered variant from infecting me? They are coming out with new strains in several countries, there is no way a vaccine conjured up so quickly will protect me from them. We still have a lot to figure out, no? Even in low-risk populations, the rate of mortality from COVID is higher than the rate of mortality from not having COVID. Nobody in public health would opt to just let a disease run rampant. Besides which, then you have a much higher rate of mutation, and instead of a few variants like we see today you wind up with a handful of highly immuno-evasive variants that become more dangerous.

We can't say "the destruction caused by lockdowns has outweighed" anything because it's completely speculative. We don't want to fall victim to hindsight bias or pretend we know more than we do. Also economics is pseudoscience at best. Next time something like this happens, maybe we don't shut everything down and just rely on face coverings and keeping people away from large indoor gatherings.

>Getting vaccinated is not a big deal for anyone who works in the medical profession, I get the flu shot every year and have never gotten sick in years.
You have the benefit of seeing first-hand all the illness in a community. It makes the decision to get a vaccine much easier. The general public is relying on second- and third-hand information. If someone doesn't get the flu, they don't think they need a flu shot, but you've seen what the flu looks like and how much of an absolute cunt it is.

not all vaccines. just this one. I can wait a couple years, hopefully not a marek disease situation occurs where a large % of people get it and it selects for the most deadly variants due to 'leaky' vaccines. I figure that is a year or so away but i'll be watching carefully and if that happens -- yep, i'll get it. luckily i'm a physician and can get it pretty much whenever. my current excuse is
>i am young and healthy and others need it more than me, i will continue to mask and social distance :)))
and thats worked well so far, even some people have called me selfless and admirable lol

>the rate of mortality from COVID is higher than the rate of mortality from not having COVID.
What do you mean, exactly?
>Besides which, then you have a much higher rate of mutation
I'm pretty sure this is just speculation. Any number of predictions can be made since supposedly not much is known about the virus. It has run unchecked in the US for the most part yet most of the new strains have popped up elsewhere.
>We can't say "the destruction caused by lockdowns has outweighed" anything because it's completely speculative.
This is not true. Have you read anything about the housing and rent problem in the US? That is just one problem of several.
>Also economics is pseudoscience at best.
What the... I'm going to need some reasoning and evidence to back that up.

What have you tried? I'll give you a few hints:
>permanent organ damage
>people needing treatment in hospitals will overwhelm them such that general mortality among the public grows
>more people infected means higher chance of mutation
Seems like you are too scared to educate yourself about the ongoing pandemic.

>The flu isn't related to a discussion about viruses?
Doing it again. We were talking about Corona. Not "viruses".
>???
Yeah, you didn't.
>I'll go easy on you
Hurrrr durrr, cool argument. I knew right from the start when you accused me of trolling that you weren't capable of critical thought. Troll elsewhere.

Which ones should I get? Thinking about doubling or tripling up on vaccines.
