Every time I solve a problem he has to go on about how my method was weird, long or unusual, why can't he just shut the fuck up if the proof is right? What more is there to say? What is it to you that I made my proof by contradiction instead of by cases?

I'll never forget when he asked us to prove that [math] \int_{a}^{a+{\pi}} |sin(x)| = c [/math] for any a, and he gave me shit for proving [math] \int_{a}^{a+{\pi}} |sin(x)| = | \int_{n{\pi}}^{n{\pi}+{\pi}} sin(x) | [/math] first by fucking around with the absolute values.

I've seen him give a free pass to others' mistakes but he'll start saying stuff like that I don't understand the material for making something as dumb as writting tan(a/b) instead of tan(b/a) nearing the end of a proof. I don't get it, I know the material but he acts like any little mistake I make is a big deal and takes 1/3 to 1/2 of the points. And even if I get full marks on something he'll write some sassy comment on how I'm over complicating things even when I lay out my thought process as neatly as possible.

Thanks anon, I couldn't take the pressure anymore so I took anal 4 at the same time as I was taking his anal 3 class so that I didn't have to be graded by him this semester but he still let me attend his lectures. I hope this is just average academia stuff and not some kind of grude for some dumb shit I did or said.

I felt this way too when I took real analysis, but now I'm a grader for real analysis and I do nitpick about this sort of thing. I don't take off points but I make comments about how proofs could be improved / simplified.
I'm not trying to be annoying, but I think it can be interesting to see what the most efficient / intuitive way to prove something is, no? Why is it any different from learning new material to you?
Here's the honest truth: When I see a problem from babby's real analysis now, I know how to do it instantly in the nicest way. Because I'm experienced and have developed the "instinct" for analysis. So it can be frustrating to me when I have to read through some nasty proof and grade it meticulously when there's a 2-line solution. But I'm not going to take that out on the student, instead I'm going to do my part in trying to help them to build those same instincts by showing them the several ways to approach a problem.
