So is alcohol just straight-up, 100% unhealthy for you? Does every sip kill brain cells? To my understanding, the only "positive" function it serves is as a social lubricant.

What does /sci/ say about health and alcohol?

Any amount is bad for you, and the more the worse. It's just one of those uncomfortable truths that people would rather ignore because of how common drinking is.

It's poison, but no where near as debilitating as something like marijuana. Alcohol can be seductive, especially in the worst of times, so I think it's better to avoid the stuff on principle. Idiots and stoners will tell you these things are okay in moderation, most of those people can't do math.

Having a moderate amount of alcohol is deep lindy

A small amount of alcohol ingested every now and then (a couple weeks to a month) isnt going to "permanently damage your brain" as many crazy sissibois in this server say. Dont drink it every day and youll be fine.

This has to be a troll. Cannabis makes you into a complete moron, you will not be able to do elementary mathematics things that schoolchildren can do. There is no way to avoid this, it is the main effect of the drug. Alcohol won't do that, at least not in small doses, although if you consume it regularly, you will forget how to do math too, but nowhere near the total annihilation of pot.

The benefits from wine offset the damage, so it's fine in very low levels.

>> No.12771191

Alcohol is not just a straight up poison. There's basically no bacterial or viral life that can survive the power of its corrosion. We've wasted a lot of time and lives for all of human history simply because the majority of the population were drunk like retards (sometimes out of necessity because brewing was safer than drinking their tainted water supplies, but it still got everyone addicted). If you drink now, try your best without it for a month and listen to how your body feels to understand how much it's been holding you back.

Unhealthy, but there are no transformative, genius-level figures in the history western civilization who didn't drink alcohol. Not one. (No, Hitler doesn't count.) It won't make you smarter or more creative, but it certainly won't interfere if you already are. You'll just die earlier and more painfully, on average.

>Does every sip kill brain cells?
Nah. Alcohol tolerance is innate in all organism because eating fermented fruit happens.
For europe, particularly the north, it have been selected for during the ages too so your organism have a higher tolerance before it is damaged.

Alcohol doesn't kill brain cells, it leads to volume loss in the brain if you abuse it hard for long times. If you have a bottle of wine every saturday every week of your life you'll be mostly fine.

There is an association with increased cancer risk but again this shoots up with higher doses.

>> No.12773237

>>12770205
It actually has medicinal purposes and if you use it for them you can see benefits.

Remember that for the longest time people in Europe had to drink it because it helped disinfect their water supply. Obviously we don't need it for that now, but that should give you a hint.

Hint two would be that series of posts from a Rothschild that float around where he says he only imbibes after a fast. Having done prolonged fasting myself I believe I understand the reasoning.

This is based on personal experience and intuition rather than an official study, but;

I believe it has to do with fasting being useful for destroying cells that are viral hosts. The alcohol afterwards helps suppress the viruses from reinfecting cells after the fast is over. I completed a seven day fast last year and shortly afterwards felt a combination of symptoms that felt like every cold I ever had hitting me at once. Some vodka felt extremely relieving. Vodka is my preferred choice in that it is 'clean' alcohol.
