alive doesn’t really mean anything anon. “life” is just the method organic matter uses to navigate its environment. organic beings of higher complexity require more complex mechanisms for perceiving their environment.

eventually you get to apes with brains so big that the control mechanism is so complex that its capable of perceiving itself, then you have what we consider consciousnesses.
