Have we ever done any studies to see what's going on in the heads of these guys? Do we know which species of insect are intelligent compared to the others? What is insect neurology like; do they generally have defined brains?

Any papers, studies, or anecdotes you can provide would be helpful. Thanks for indulging my curiosity.

Independent researcher here. I noticed that when cut of the heads of insects it made very little difference. This lead me to conclude that not much happens inside their heads.

Insects really look like they might as well be aliens, I mean in the sense that they're so different from us

Yes, and cephalopod brains are toroidal. I'm more interested in the overall computing power than the brain structure. I mean, I know it isn't great, but still.

Whoah now, you're not insisting something other than socio-beeconomic factors influence cognition are you? Bee lives matter bigot.

I dunno about insects but Portia spiders are ridiculously intelligent given that their "brains" contain only 500,000 neurons

Any theoretical difference in intelligence would be immaterial. These things are the closest thing to stimulus = action
