>Perhaps Aliens encountered earth but didn't consider humans an intelligent life form, to them we are probably just like very smart Squirrels.

You might be happy to know that it's from a 4 hour feuture film and every minute is just as cozy as the picture.

>Things retards say
"Aliens are here for gold"
"Aliens are here for water"
"Aliens build X historic architecture"
"Aliens are living among people"

>Things midwits say
"Aliens have a deal with the government in exchange for DNA information"
"There are so many stars and planet in the universe that it should be very likely there is at least another planet besides Earth that has spawned intelligent life"
"Aliens might evolve but they hit the great filter sometime in their technological development which is why the universe is empty"
"Aliens might be out there but due to evolved darwinism might always be silent and hiding because all civilizations share the same resource pool, making conflict inevitable"

>Things intelligent people say
"Due to entropy there is a limited amount of matter and energy in the universe. This pushes advanced civilizations towards minimizing the amount of entropy in the universe. The most energy wasting system in the known universe are stars. Therefor stars existing are direct evidence of advanced alien species not existing and never having existed before as extinguishing stars would be the top priority of every advanced alien to reduce the rate of entropy and maximize the length of the alien civilization's existence.

interesting take but i will take the very low probability argument over this.

I've heard copper is usually rarer than gold, but that the Earth is an exception, and that if anything, aliens will come here for copper.

The entropy-minimisation argument is unecessary because everything we know about abiogenesis tells us it's statistically impossible that life has emerged anywhere else in our observable universe

>> No.12639768

>>12638521
>>12639581
These are both fair arguments but the difference is that we don't really know the probability of abiogenesis with certainty and low probability is an asumption. Meanwhile stars being visible is a fact and all the other assumptions are derived from fundamental physics like thermodynamics.

>>12638638
Not necessarily Dyson Sphere, just extinguishing stars in some way, Dyson Sphere is too precise as there are potentially a lot of ways to do similar things.

>>12639345
The problem isn't that gold or copper isn't rare. It's more about the fact that the amount of energy needed to come to Earth and then mine the material to transport it back to whereever you want it uses more energy than just turning some other element into the element you want. So the Alien could just turn for example Lead into Gold or Nickel into Copper using high energy transmutation. This would be far more efficient in terms of energy use and far quicker.

Advanced species won't look at elements or resources besides generic "matterenergy"

We use tools, use language, and are self-aware. There's no possible way that humans could be construed as unintelligent beings. If space aliens really are more "advanced" than us in that regard (and that's a HUGE if), then the distance between us is probably more like humans and dogs/ octopi/ dolphins than humans and squirrels/ ants/ cattle/ etc..

>We use tools, use language, and are self-aware
You're judging us by our own standards though. Cats might think we're stupid because we can't hunt (at least, not those of us who've abandoned the hunter-gatherer lifestyle), because that's what they value. An alien species might value entirely different qualities as intelligent than what humans consider important.
Even by that standard some non-human animals arguably fulfill some or all of those qualities. I don't think we would be that interested in attempting to communicate with an alien species of comparable intelligence to dogs or even chimpanzees or dolphins. Maybe squirrels is an exaggeration, but it's impossible to imagine when we don't know just how advanced alien species can become, especially aliens who would have the ability to travel to Earth.

no animal on earth is too primitive for human scholars to have an interest in.

if another species considered humans too primitive to study, they would have a lower will to learn than ours. would that attitude even bring them into space?
