How can anyone recommend this book in good conscience? The exercises are far too easy and it doesn't even cover nets and filters. The algebraic topology section is also very short and highly lacking.

If you read the book Munkres says there are no books on the topic for undergraduates, so he is attempting to write one. Also, he says in the 2nd part that he's not an expert on algebraic topology and it's just a sample of it. For an intro at an undergraduate level it's fine. It's not really suited for graduate level study obviously, nor does it pretend to be.

Nobody ever claimed it was an algebraic topology book. It's like complaining baby Rudin doesn't cover measure theory.

Who cares it's a good book. Unless you want to be a point set autist it's all you will ever need.

I really like this book a lot, but it seems you haven't read the preface.
He admits himself this was never meant to be a point-set topology book or even a topological manifolds book. More like, "a little bit of both" kind of book.

it's a good book to learn general topology but when i was done with it i got filtered hard by hatcher's book...

>>12623203
i tried to read that book too but it was really boring maybe im too dumb shame because his book with bott seems amazing but it also seems fucking hard looks like you have to be grad school level in algebra /algebraic topology to read it

You've mistaken the book for something else. Lee's book is for brainlets.
