I was here 10 days ago. Basically, went to ENT doctor because of constant unilateral tinnitus (+ other ear has this weird thing where I hear static TV noise whenever there's a loud sound nearby), diagnosed it as bilateral otitis interna (obviously I wasn't really satisfied) because there was no wax whatsoever(had an ear wash 3 months ago) but he didn't even order an audiometry test for hearing loss or even conduct a simple rinne/weber test.
Was prescribed prednisolone, thioctic acid supplements, and some anti-tinnitus med i forgot its name. Have been taking them for a week now, and nothing new happened.
If it isn't cerumen impaction, what am I looking at here? Do both ears even have the same problem?
And yeah, I'm scheduled to meet with him again tomorrow.

More common name is labyrinthitis. You don't need audiometry or tuning fork tests to diagnose that.
Yes it can and usually is bilateral because it spreads.

Sup bros. I have a med interview in a few days and I'm not worried very much. Should I be? I feel like they already know I'm a good candidate (objectively I am) otherwise I wouldnt get an invitation. This has to just be a retard check, right guys? I've been talking in the mirror a lot while lifting helps, I convert my anxious retard energy into /fit/ energy and get a massive pump on after talking about myself interview-style. I think this might help produce chad psychology behaviour vibes and I'll just enter chad-familyMD mode and get an instant pump. Thoughts? I don't know if this is retarded, im only a pre med. I think its working so far, every time I read my interview question notes I feel the urge to lift and reign supreme. I have this powerlevel of confidence that nobody else will have. My autism is so strong they wont even see it. I will cast a shadow darker than night and they will only think it be the sun has set. HAHAHA. Anyway time to study literally the simplest shit i've ever read in my entire existence. I also already bought a white coat and stethoscope I'm going to wear as soon as I get accepted - I might even show it during the interview and whisper *im ready for this* after my based easy interview, heh. Anway, hope your guys patients aren't all dead. fuck nurses amirite?

It's a lot of paperwork and opaque bureaucratic processes. Theoretically your degree and even specialty should be automatically valid through the EU, but you might need to deal with regional authorities, and maybe some sort of oversight organization for the particular spec in addition to just the national authorities in order to get a permit to practice, and this can take a lot of effort, money, time and you might still get stumped in the end without any real reason, and obviously challenging these decisions will take a lot more money, time and effort.

Med school interviews are literally a way to make sure they pick an equal number of men and women (or more women). They've studied this and found that med school interview performance is a very poor predictor of desirable characteristics of a physician or success as a physician. On the other hand on the only objective measure used for entry into med school (the MCAT or similar exams around the world), men outperform women to such an extent that if only exams were used as an entry requirement, ~70% of med students would be men.

Anyone heard about the health benefits from electrical earthing for people?
Me mum has been on the deep web and read that people need earthing to get rid of negative energy.

They argue that all living things does it naturally by being in physical contact with the earth, but since modern humans use shoes we never touch the ground.

Had to tell her she just has bad luck. It is kinda sorta against the rules to shove blame on the idiot despite the blatant drug use without sounding like an asshole. I leave that to the gynocologists to tell her to get off drugs, worded more nicely, if she's planning for more kids. She's not at menopause yet, and yet she still wants another kid. She's nuts, I tell you.

>> No.12624844

Double also, but unlikely since mRNA is temporary. The point of using it for the vaccine is that it creates an immune reponse that lasts longer than the actual mRNA. I think practically speaking an mRNA inhaler would generate proper CFTRs in only some of the lung tissue and once those channels were recycled you'd need to reapply it. It's probably possible to come up with a regimen of routine inhalations to get a high population of the functioning CFTRs in the tissue, but I don't think it's particularly viable.

Yeah my idea was it was a repeated therapy, not a one and done lol. Just spitballing the idea because even if it was a little effective then it could act as a decent bridge to transplant.

I'm interested in FM because I like the scope and variety and it would allow me to work as a hospitalist then settle down to outpatient when I get older. I am also interested in EM but everything I've read is that the job market is fucked beyond recognition. It's probably overly optimistic to think that outpatient FM does anything complicated; in any case I have a long time.

I take it my application is decent? Have math and bio minors as well, wanted to do applied physics initially but realized my sophomore year that it's horribly boring and everyone is autistic.

It'd be really hard to get the dosing/clinical outcomes from the inhaler right. Also, consider patients' adherence and inhaler technique.

Whatever. Seems like you've already made up your mind.

No, your application is not "decent". It's generic as fuck. Most medical schools don't care what your undergrad was so physics/chem double major might as well be art history/music. 3.7 is okay, but there are lots of gunners with 4.0s (not that they get it since they have other weaknesses). EMT/ER tech is good. 50 hours shadowing is mediocre. Having a "clean record" is like saying you breathe air; everyone who applies does. Even with a "pretty good" MCAT you could get rejected. If you told me you had a 518 MCAT, I'd waitlist you without extra information. Also your attitude pisses me off so I might just reject after interviewing you.

Fair point. I'm curious to see if and how the technology is applied outside vaccines.

And I haven't made up my mind, just asking for expert opinion. I'll probably end up as a urologist or something gay. I've heard a fair number of ER docs and hospitalists tell me though that they're tired of working night on a saturday when they're 50 and have kids.

Well I can't be anything but generic. I also have research experience and have presented at conference. In the US, the patient's bill of rights straight up states:
>The patient has the right to be free from restraints of any form that are not medically necessary or are used as a means of coercion, discipline, convenience, or retaliation by staff. The term ‘‘restraint’’ includes either a physical restraint or a drug that is being used as a restraint. A physical restraint is any manual method or physical or mechanical device, material, or equipment attached or adjacent to the patient’s body that he or she cannot easily remove that restricts freedom of movement or normal access to one’s body.

Worse yet, he said an intern did it, not an attending physician. MOST hospitals don't allow interns to prescribe treatment or medication, especially not without supervision. This also goes against the patient's right to make an informed decision regarding his/her treatment.

If anyone here was even a pre-med they'd know this. They teach this shit to all hospital staff, even fucking cooks and orderlies see this shit.

In the US a nurse or cna would be tasked with ambulating, even as the most major fall risk in the world you aren't allowed to lock a patient in bed by use of the rails. That's actually a misuse of bed rails, which you would know if you were even pre-med. Bed rails aren't allowed to be used to keep patients from getting out of bed as it has results in higher injury and fatality rates due to patients of all ages trying to climb over them. It's akin to raising the bed to the max height to keep a patient from being able to reach the floor. It's also specifically outlawed word for word to use bed rails to trap a patient for:

Whatever you do, don't put your dick in the stoma you degenerate.
Other than that, talk with your surgeon, but probably a bad idea. Over time you're gonna get some neuromuscular degeneration in the area so it'll be more fragile than usual. Best to avoid.

feel free to fuck off with these bleeding-heart scenarios designed to make people want to snitch. Snitching has a time and a place, and occasionally it can help you gain money, power and social status, but it is ultimately the behavior of bitches. It is the polar opposite of loyalty. It is the inherent tendency of bitches to cry to authority when they want to harm someone without overtly harming them - by being passive aggressive and making the person suffer through punishment invoked by a third party. The laziest form of punishment.

Instead of ratting to your boss, you can just say to another coworker "uhh that nurse just beat that patient." Word of mouth alone will spread and the offending staff will likely get caught. Justice occurs sometimes.

You're at work for one purpose: to make money. Gaining distrust and hatred among staff will compromise your ability to make money. Do with this information what you will

Sounds like when my grandmother literally got death threats for reporting my grandfather's caregivers for leaving him unattended and in the same position in bed without care/treatment/food for days at a time. They acted like she was reporting them to the schutzstaffel.

Why aren't there more blacks in medicine?

>> No.12629784

African Americans have a higher genetic propensity towards instant gratification, which is why many would rather rap for cash or do quick jobs for the money they need now. Blacks therefor generally prefer shorter time investments in education, which doesn't follow the typical rule in medicine.

However, you will see many in nursing.

>> No.12629822

>>12629709
Not the guy you're responding to, but hospitals definitely have their own rules, you don't report someone for not following every official rule since that just fucks with the work climate and frankly a some of those rules are made with some idealized setting in mind that just not compatible with reality if your team is understaffed and overworked. Straight up abuse or mistreatment isn't part of that, beating or neglecting a patient is a no go. But then again, depending on your spec you have what? 2 or 3 ward rotations a shift? If a nurse neglects or abuses a patient, chances are you don't notice it unless it leaves some obvious marks, and unless others nurses/interns or the patient/his relatives notifies someone, it will go unnoticed. Out of curiosity, at what facility was your grandfather when that happened?

I've been very interested in intravenous hydrochloric acid therapy, which was gaining popularity before antibiotics were a thing, but largely abandoned without reason. Every bit of information I've read has been wildly inconsistent about what it's good for and how it even works. The one consistancy has been to not use a concentration much greater than 1:500 HCL:Water, since stronger concentrations could damage red blood cells.

I'm also Catholic, but work in STEM. Clearly, you don't work in STEM otherwise you'd have a better grasp of the scientific model we use for research. I'll tell you.
If a girl is not willing to be intimate with you then she is not a girlfriend. She might be nice to you and be a significant part of your life but she is not a girlfriend i.e. someone you are fucking regularly. She might be a friend or acquaintance. But if she has never felt the urge to fuck you then she is not a girlfriend.

This is not a bad thing by any means. It is good to have friends. But the type of person you described, who will lead a man on for months with the promise of pussy while never delivering it, is a person playing a game. She would've fucked you by now if she wanted but she chose to put you on the backburner. You are her plan B or C or D. She has already had her mouth filled with things from her Plan A man, for all intents and purposes. Again, this is not a bad thing, this is average. Women are constantly evaluating their options and that is likely what your friend is doing. And you can't really blame them.

tl;dr you are her plan Z

It's extremely stressful. You'll be in an unholy amount of debt, and you'll be amongst the lowest-paid employees of a hospital in terms of per-hour wage until at least your fellowships. Everyone still expects you to drive a BMW and have a nice house even though you technically can't afford it. At the end of it all you get to be a 40 year old attending living a life where shit hits the fan almost every day only now you're the one who gets the letter from administration or a law firm. By the time your debt is paid off and you finally are actually getting to enjoy your six-figure salary, everybody thinks you're some rich scumbag and nobody believes how hard you worked to get there.

Law isn't better, if my lawyer friends are any indication. High debt, 100+ hour workweeks, and you slowly climb your way up to the rich mahogany bookshelves, burning out half way.

If you love medicine, it's absolutely worth it. If you're in it for the money or prestige you're going to suffer every day for your whole life.

I'm not the anon you replied to, but I think you may have a warped view of medicine as a whole. A colleague's career isn't something special. They are either in the right field of employment or they aren't. If your colleagues make an honest mistake then confront them yourself and point out the mistake. If a colleague intentionally does something that infringed on the patient's health or rights, then that action can affect the entire hospital as a whole. There isn't some secret boy's club in a hospital setting, most often you'll barely know most of your colleagues.

I'll leave you with this tidbit. Medicine is for doctors, gossip is for nurses. If you feel like gossip is the best way to increase patient care and QOL then medicine isn't for you.

Infernal Medicine. I hated that shit along most of the residents. It's all electrolyte self jerk, high volume of patients, anal personalities, fucked up old people with a foot on a casket and their subclinically retarded relatives clinging to the living corpse's life and blaming their (even decade's old) neglect to the sanitary staff.
ObGyn could be a close second but I got to see my oneitis from time to time. She was a stunning, high class and yet humble anesthesia resident with the most soothest voice ever.

Several years ago, for about a year, i would occasionally have trouble initiating swallow (would push food to the back of my throat, and try to swallow, and nothing would happen). This occured maybe once or twice a month for a day or so.
It resolved and ive had no problems ever since.
What could have been causing it? The internet says its neurological but could that explain such an infrequent thing that went away totally?

>>12636186
The potential to make a bunch of money might push them to rush and ignore some safety concerns if it 'probably wont cause a problem' and it means the people who ok it make bank if everything works out.

Lets say you have the opportunity to be set for life, but there is a 0.1% chance it might land you in prison forever. Would you take it? Many would, and lets say the chain of approval has many such individuals making similar decisions about different problems? Eventually the chance of something horribly going wrong becomes significant.

TPAL Terminology
TPAL terminology is a system used to describe obstetrical history.
T— term births
P— preterm births (prior to 37 weeks gestation)
A— abortions
L— living children
Example: A woman who has 2 living children born as preterm twins in her first pregnancy would be designated as: TPAL 0-1-0-2: 0 term births, 1 delivery prior to 37 weeks gestation (preterm), 0 pregnancies ending in spontaneous or induced abortions, and 2 living children.
Separate TPAL numbers by hyphens. Obstetric history: 4-2-2-4. Alternatively, spell out the terms as follows: 4 term infants, 2 premature infants, 2 abortions, 4 living children.
GPA Terminology
Sometimes, GPA terminology is combined with TPAL terminology. GPA is the abbreviation for gravida, para, abortus. The patient is gravida 3, 3-0-0-3.
Accompanied by Arabic numbers, G, P, and A (or Ab) describe the patient’s obstetric history. Roman numerals are not used. Separate GPA sections by commas. Alternatively, spell out the terms in lower case.
Obstetric history: G4, P3, A1 or gravida 4, para 3, abortus 1. When one or more of the numbers is 0, the preferred form is to write out the terms: gravida 2, para 0, abortus 2.

G: gravida (number of pregnancies)

P: para (number of births of viable offspring)

A or Ab: abortus (abortions)

nulligravida gravida 0: no pregnancies

primigravida gravida 1, G1: 1 pregnancy

secundigravida gravida 2, G2: 2 pregnancies

nullipara para: 0 offspring
