Don't do engineering, at least not aerospace engineering. I busted my ass in a very good public ivy uni, graduated magna cum laude, got a computational science certificate on the side, and left with research and internship experience. With all that, I still couldn't get an engineering job when I graduated, and I had to take up a somewhat unrelated job that I absolutely hate. Now, I'm trying to once again find engineering jobs but my applications simply keep on getting rejected. I might KMS if I'm rejected from grad school as well, jesus christ. What was the goddamn point of getting an engineering degree? All I do now is write patents, it sucks so much and I use 0% of my engineering knowledge. Is anyone else in a similar situation?

You can't think in terms of "jobs" anymore if you don't want to be a middle income wage slave jumping from ship to ship until you are aged out. Its 2021, you unironically have to hustle. I graduated with a masters in architecture, worked for an architect long enough to get my license and then left. I saw the other slaves, my future path if I stayed a no risk pussy simping for the next paycheck and the opinions of clients. Work shit hours for a decade, doing nothing interesting, and topping off at maybe 120k a year at the end of my career. And this is if I was lucky enough to even find a decent job
I left and partnered with a contractor. Design-Build-Sell, Design-build-sell. Design-build-sell. Did this enough where I have a very large cushion and a few properties I own myself. Cut down work by 50% and am basically semi retired. Im in my early thirties. If I continued on your path ill be working 60 hours a week for 70k a year still. Pic related is my life right now. I'm really just chilling.
You have to seriously hustle. The Empire is declining, you have to think like an autonomous warlord, not a bureaucrat

What the fuck is wrong with you people? Engineering is dead, my ass! The company I work for currently has thousands of engineers and is continuously hiring even during down turns. Behind every manufacturing operation are engineers. Aero guys are going to be more specialized true, but I'm a fucking metallurgist and have always found good work to be had. I finally deleted my LinkedIn because of the constant head hunting. Fucking annoying. If you cannot find a job in engineering aero or otherwise, its you.

Also, everybody has to know some programming because data.

Look into engineering temp agencies. Good way to get some experience and make connections. They provide companies with a try before they buy option.

Out of curiosity OP you did graduate from a top 10 aerospace ENGINEERING program, right? Not all ivies have top ranked engineering programs. Princeton is very good but from what I hear places like uPenn aren't particularly special
Also this board is retarded and puts aerospace engineering degrees in high tier. Aerospace engineering is basically getting a degree in mechanical engineering but with your job prospects massively reduced. CivE and MechE are the fields with the most jobs while Materials, Aerospace, and Petroleum all have massive job finding issues.

For grad school you should seriously start working with influential professors (look at their info and find the ones in your department that graduated from top level universities) and start working with them. Letters of recommendation from these people are the most important factor in grad school applications.

How's industrial engineering? I'm a third year EE student (degrees last 5 years here), and even though I'm maintaining a very good GPA I've come to realize I fucking hate anything involving design, i.e. working with Altium, printing + soldiering, nothing working, sleeping 4 hours a day because this fucking practical works takes so much time that I got no other choice but to load with coffee so that I can actually study the theory (which I do enjoy a lot) and keep the good GPA.
In any case, I've been considering switching to IE, since the practical/lab work is pretty much non-existent, and it seems to have a huge emphasis in statistics/data analysis (at least in my uni) which I enjoy and think might actually be a good career. In any case, any IE here? Would it be worth it to drop EE for it? Or should I power through with EE? Is there even any job an EE can do that doesn't involve any sort of manual/design stuff?

I don't think software jobs will take you unless you have some extracurricular programming projects you can show, but if you can do that (which isn't too hard honestly, programming is pretty easy) then you should be able to get a lot of software jobs. But that is the case for any STEM major so EE is nothing special here. you also won't be able to get the six figure jobs that FAANG offer though, they explicitly interview for theoretical CS knowledge.

Networking is such a meme, it’s entire premise shows the lie, because it shows that there are less jobs than qualified peeps, so no matter how you network, most people are still going to be left out.
Most networking in reality is guy a was born into it (parents have connections) guy b is friends with guy a by luck of location(dorm/classroom seating/etc) and guy c,d,e,f,g...,etc. are shit out of luck and told

I moved from my shithole country to France, got accepted in a top tier engineering school (energy systems master's), had a high gpa and 2 internships, I always was el "primero de la clase" and loved studying, but now I found myself working for a service entreprise, that sells my skills to a client (for about 500€/day but I only get 2000€/m) and whenever I'm about to master the skill needed for the job, they change my mission to another one so the present client doesn't hire me..
