The 26 year, 15.4 billion boondoggle is finally over, JWST was quietly canceled amongst all the hullabaloo and big announcements of the past couple weeks, but if you look at the JWST status page, it looks like they must've ceased working on the project in October.

It says right there on your link that some milestones were pushed back to this year because of china virus

>> No.12604166

If it finally launches and then fails to work or fails to react orbit intact, what would be the ramifications for NASA? Can't imagine Congress is going to say "Don't worry about, everyone makes mistakes" after over 15 billion has been sunk into it.

What else would they do? Those same people have been prosecuting "the war on drugs" for 50 years and drugs are winning, but nobody is offering to give back any of the money wasted on the drug war boondoggle

They did make Bill Clinton choose between funding the International Space Station or the Texas Superconducting Super Collider even though a couple of billion had already been spent on both.

Money that could be better spent housing migrant caravans or social justice programs for inner city youth. You've got enough coffee table space photo books from Hubble chuds.

How many times are you going to make these shitty threads OP? You've been wrong every time before.

It would be big news if it was cancelled. They would have to inform the GTO teams and it would be all over twitter.

NASA is largely a jobs program it doesn't really matter if they can't produce results. Failed satellite is just a convenient excuse to launch a second one or a repair mission.

>> No.12604513

>>12604166
There is almost surely a second one, or enough parts for a second one. It will need some work, but it will be usable. That's how spacecrafts are made, especially scientific ones.
