Yep
>When the Orion nuclear pulse propulsion concept was being developed, the researchers at General Atomic were interested in an interplanetary research vessel. But the US Air Force was not. They thought the 4,000 ton version of the Orion would be rightsized for an interplanetary warship, armed to the teeth. And when they said armed, they meant ARMED. It had enough nuclear bombs to devastate an entire continent (500 twenty-megaton city-killer warheads), 5-inch Naval cannon turrets, six hypersonic landing boats, and several hundred of the dreaded Casaba Howitzer weapons — which are basically ray guns that shoot nuclear flame (the technical term is "nuclear shaped charge").

>Keep in mind that this is a realistic design. It could actually be built.

i know people think some memer just changed it to arabic, but believe it or not these are the originals. Arabs came into contact with time travellers in the X century, couldnt make much sense of it but tried to keep it a secret, eventually it was stole by the west and when the plans were finally understood there was a gradual plan to put it all into work at a rate that would not be traumatic for the baseline humans.

That's why sometimes an invention "appears" out of nowhere and sometimes things that make sense get ultra shut down for a while, theyre just waiting for us to more or less adapt to what has changed

"The decision came after Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett traveled to the White House this week to tell Trump the military had chosen Colorado Springs after a new presidentially ordered process that tossed out an earlier decision to keep the command, its 1,400 airmen and thousands of civilian workers here.

Trump, officers familiar with the briefing said, instead ordered the command to head to Alabama, a state that includes six lawmakers who objected to the election results last week and delivered Trump a Senate win, with Republican Tommy Tuberville unseating Democrat Doug Jones.”

It's basically a basket full of various stocks, this way you can profit from how they perform collectively instead of having to try to pick winners and losers which most people are terrible at. Most serious retail investors buy index ETFs, which is trying to match the return from the broader market while paying less fees than something like a mutual fund, but this will be a bit different because it's actively managed and will only include space stocks.

As someone that’s working to be an AE in the area, I’m pretty excited about it, but aside from that, Huntsville has a really good quality of life with a significantly lower cost of living than Colorado Springs. Operationally, Redstone Arsenal is an Army facility instead of Air Force, so it should help accomplish the goal of keeping the USAF from trying to muscle back into the space game. Industry-wise, both cities have a ton of highly trained professionals in space and defense, but Huntsville has the advantage of a major NASA facility (and the exclusively space-focused contractors that accompany it).

If that happens inflation will be so high that any savings you have will be worthless and if the history of the stock market tells us anything, it's that it is unwise to delay investing because of those concerns. I remember a few years after the housing bubble popped I read so many comments saying the same thing and decided that I wasn't going to invest, as you can imagine I missed out on tens of thousands of dollars from that decision and one of the greatest bull markets of all time.

Obviously you should make your own decision and work out your risk tolerance but if you're a relatively young person with steady income I think it's appropriate. In these bull market conditions ARK funds return about 25% a year and I'm already up nearly 100% on the space stocks I bought over the last few months. I'm able to take profit from them and put them into more stable investments which would have lower drawdowns during a real recession or depression.

I mean space. And I think they have their heads on straight but understanding what SpaceX is doing is exactly the issue. You can grab meme stocks that are going to get pumped just by being "space" but most of them lack long term solvency. I don't trust anybody in launch. In propulsion in general people with a half decent bus are important, right now that's pretty much just Momentus and Rocketlab, there's some oldspace ones but they're going to lose more than they gain. Communications and internet services are going to be mogged hard by Starlink which MIGHT split off in the future. I'll admit there's probably a decent amount in the sat market that goes under my notice, Planet and their ilk are probably a good bet.

The end result is that a lot more money inflows than outflows and this ETF will benefit regardless of how well it is managed. Maybe. I think there's a big public perception right now that anything sent to space needs to justify itself in firm scientific or humanitarian terms because the effort and investment is otherwise too big to waste (see: the backlash to the falcon heavy roadster launch). Once people recalibrate and realize that the effort and investment is much lower than they thought (and on track to being democratized) they will become more comfortable with "wasteful" space launches. The BEST and most solid argument is it's a great driver of technological innovation. Space has pushed tons of technology forward, and is used in almost everything nowadays, even stuff like farming.
Any achievements we make in sustainability, power generation/storage, production etc. for anything related to spaceflight will also be leveraged to make things better on earth. Spaceflight isn't a zero sum game, and it's stupid to think of it as such.

Don’t forget that many of these politicians have actual business reasons as well and they wouldn’t want to disappoint their friends over at ULA by not giving them a juicy contract over spacex.

The way the primary space faring race of Earth is getting on right now does not seem quite in line with those traits nor does it seem to be turning out terribly well rejecting them, especially as other groups who hold those traits more closely begin to sense what they perceive as weakness and rightfully exploit it.

Is having too much compassion for unhelpful or even dangerous things a good idea?

Hydrolox has it's issues but there is also a reason everyone is using them. The expander cycle hydrolox is the highest ISP chemical engines to ever fly and for long burns like GTO and TLI it makes a lot of sense.
I'm not saying everything should be hydrolox but the Centaur has proven extremely useful even if it comes with an oldspace price tag.

I think that is only valid if every spacefaring species were ruthless. Even if a significant minority of such species were compassionate and cooperative then there might be a trend towards space cooperation. Just look at the social differences between humans and chimpanzees. Humans are naturally cooperative at some level and thus this encourages more humans to be the same to survive. Chimpanzees are much more brutal and would often cheat each other out, cooperation there is pointless

Okay wait I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. Martian food. Obviously the first settlers will have tons of MRE’s. (I believe elon said for every crewed SS there’s going to be like 9 cargos? presumably lots of non perishable food on board). Likely a farm will be started but it will be small. You might be telling your future children stories of earth, about how you don’t need a space suit because the entire planet is friendly to life. Herbs and spices and fruit and vegetables and live animals grow and roam free all over the place. It will seem like the garden of eden lmao. Maybe by the second generation they will have enough real estate to grow self sustainable food and you won’t have to rely on earth to fill your stomach save for niche things that you can’t grow on mars. Let’s be very honest, we don’t have a commercially available heavy-lift vehicle. The Starship may some day come about. It’s on the drawing board right now. SLS is real. You've seen it down at Michoud. We're building the core stage. We have all the engines done, ready to be put on the test stand at Stennis... who knows why the fuck people buy some of the nasty shit on our shelves

I'm pretty sure that even in this photo, the actual stars are but small dots. Even our closest neighbors are still very far away. But stars are bright as fuuuuuuuuuuck so they create a huge lensing effect
As a side note I went down an autistic rabbit hole last year and did a bunch of wikipedia binging on close stars that have been directly imaged. Besides Betelgeuse, I think Antares looks really good. You can see the differences that form on the surface

Being cheaper to fly than an SLS booster is just icing on the cake.

>Ignoring the welds
Your fallacy is assuming the tank strength was solely limited by the thickness of the metal. The 8 bar limit was due to weld strength, not the sheet metal, therefore you can't scale it based on change in metal thickness.
