just wage slave, bro.

nagging on you, subtly questioning your self-worth, never sure whether or not she cheats on you.
>no friends
who will abandon you anyway in difficult times
>no academic success
abusive professors and supervisors, tons of dead-lines, obligatory meetings, poorly paid but lots of overtime. Chances of getting a job not improved after completing PhD.

wtf? You learn a ton of shit in a PhD, how can it not improve your chances to land a good job?

It's an actual thing. Tons of PhD students who actually completed their studies are competing against those with master degrees.

Maybe but a PhD also opens you up to top-tier research opportunities not open to someone without it.

Its a bit like being a ship captain. No one wants you on their crew after you’ve been a Captain. As if it might undermine their leadership or decisions.

To work in top-tier research facilities, you need to graduate from a prestigious university, must have very good grades throughout your study time, have connections and preferentially also have a PhD thesis cum laude. And because people cheat and universities are nepotic shitholes, hard work doesn't really pay off that much. More importantly, PhD students provide cheap labor. That's why there are too many of them. Not all of them can later work in research facilities simply because the jobs aren't there. Also, working in academics is actually awful. It's not well paid except for the top positions, you're just as likely to be fired as everywhere else and the atmosphere in general is toxic. Most of the neoliberal pseudo-leftist shit like #metoo, black lives matter, white privilege actually originate in university settings and you have to conform to these slogans if you don't want to get fired indefinitely.

There's tons of research opportunities in private companies.

anon you are in the perfect position for when the economic collapse and ensuing war starts. God kept you without weights to tie you down to make you one his soldiers. You need to train as a sniper so you can take (((them))) out when the SHTF

You're still liable to the same conditions. Also, let's be honest. If you don't happen to graduate in biology or pharmaceutical sciences, there aren't that many research jobs in the private market.

Then who comes up with and designs all the groundbreaking shit that companies come up with? There's billions being spent on R&D in the private sector.

And let's not forget that many of these research jobs are simple lab jobs where you're paid nothing and are treated poorly. Really, I should tell people more often that getting a degree in engineering is way better than trying to settle for a research job.

Welcome to the real world.

Good luck trying to land one. They're rare compared to other majors. I never said that you should not go for a PhD if you're offered one. Just don't expect too much from it job-wise. A bachelor's degree for example has become absolutely worthless now.

dude, abandon all hope. clown world is in full swing. check yourself for a religion. if you got one, good. start practicing it. if not. start a relationship with god and nature by yourself. pick father figures from the vast archive of western civ, and let them guide you.

Stop whining.
I'm in the same position except that I have been wageslaving for 3 years.
I have saved up enough money to live for almost two yeara and in a few months I am going to quit my job to start a company to work on things I believe in instead of slaving away for mr shekelberg's pleasure.
