Now, I'm not about wether these tests are actually usefull or not but rather I just to see if someone can confirm or deny my hypotesis about why this happened.

Coca cola has a pH of 2.7, so what happened is that after exposing the strip to acid the antibodies changed conformation and and made the coloidal gold particles to precipitate turning making the test look like it was positive.

I ask mostly because I can't find any usefull information about what these strips are actually made of. I just find broad strokes about their fundamentals, but I can't find anything about what exactly precipitates to give a red colour and how precipitates exactly and I don't have any strips to simply test the hypothesis, so maybe heresomeone can tell me wether I'm wrong or right.

The point of the politican was to say
>See? These tests trigger off with anything!
But, well, it wasn't scienitifical at all. He did not use a control like water nor a replication just in case one strip was bad and so on and so on... but I'm still curious if pH can give off a false positive or not.

Whether or not his assertion is correct, the tests themselves have around a 60-70% success rate, meaning that we see 30-40% false positives. I've talked to a few people in labs back in May, they were worried that the numbers we see provided are overblown. That being said the virus and some of the dangers it presents are real, but the panic is manufactured to induce government intervention to create permanent authoritative control.

I'd like to get more clarification on this. The claim was that it's an antibody blood test. If that's true, then first of all, using coca cola to disprove something is ridiculous. No one consumes enough coca cola that it will actually change their blood. Second of all, antibody tests aren't being used to shut down economies, that would be PCR and antigen tests. But let's just assume it's actually a PCR or antigen test. Those generally use nasal swabs. Are you snorting your coca cola?

If there is no covid, you'd expect negative or at least inconclusive results.
I mean, it would be a dumb demonstration to take covid positive fluid, mix it with coca cola, then have the test come out negative.
But this demonstration is something else entirely as it shows the test can show positive when there no covid is present at all.
Again, not "negative". Not "inconclusive". "POSITIVE".

PCR uses DNA primers that focus the polymerase on a specific spot in the genome - it's how the test "knows" whether a piece of DNA is there or not. If your primer sequence is too broad or the parameters of the assay (like annealing temperature, aka the temperature at which the primers stick to the DNA sequence) are off, you can get non-specific amplification that will result in false negatives. For instance, when using short primers, the chances of a partial match elsewhere in the genome is high. So the test developer will set the annealing temperature very high to make sure it can bind to only spots in the genome that are a perfect match to the primer sequence and only specific PCR amplification can occur.

Anyways, there's basically no proof that the primers used for their assay aren't cross-reacting with regular coronavirus DNA, which most people would test positive for several times per year. Has the primer sequence been published? Usually test companies can keep that secret until the test comes off-patent.

hear me out. It's a well-known effect of alcohol that when you drink it, it gets absorbed into your blood stream. Some of it diffuses into your lungs, and escapes your body when you breathe. The more alcohol in your blood, the more in your breath. Since a typical person has no other reason to have alcohol molecules in their breath, law enforcement can use breathalyzers to test your BAC.

But this test also shows positive in cases where your BAC isn't high, doesn't it? If for example you take a swish of mouthwash as the police car pulls you over. Does that mean the test is trash? Or does it just mean the test has caveats and won't produce correct results if the correct conditions aren't maintained?

Don't be daft. The point of an analogy isn't to be literal, just to highlight a way of thinking. Breathalyzers could also produce erroneous positive results for other reasons.
