What did Werner Heisenberg mean when he said, “The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences will turn you into an atheist, but at the bottom of the glass god is waiting for you”?

>> No.12399041

fake quote but it means atheists are midwits

isn't that entirely evident what is meant by that?

>> No.12399060

Yeah maybe when you first understand that the god of thunder is not making the thunder you are confident that any claims about God or Gods and such are complete humbug. But then after investigating reality as closely as possible and finding no certainty the idea of just affirming with a vague ansatz that "God made this shit" becomes more comforting which at the very least will make most people less dismissive of theology.

the issue is that the dimwits reject the sciences for going against the bible. you can say to them "well this is how god did it" and they'll thump you in the jaw because the bible explicitly states that god made plants before he made the heavens, and that space is a lie because it is actually a firmament. try to say that these are misunderstandings of the people who wrote the bible, and you'll get another thump.

It's about patterns, the rules in this world, math, computing, materialism being false and the interpretation of the quantum world being made of things not considered traditionally real. It's not about a God of the gaps argument like atheists interpret it in the sense that "gaps in science show there is a God" so they can cross this type of thinking off as nonsensical nor is it something like Pascals wager. It also doesn't apply to theological problems and arguments against God like the problem with evil and the problem with God being all powerful and good at the same time.
Scientists like Heisenberg don't say what God is and is not, it's rather about the belief that the world is in a sense rational similar to what Godel believed, on top of other worlds existing being rational but different like the quantum world.
So by the bottom of the glass, what he means is that we are beings exploring a creation and what we consider God is either a mover or a creator.

Religion is for the weak. Through the application of scientific principles you realize there is no god, but then you get scared by the cold hard reality and then out of fear you return to your religious beliefs for comfort even though you know they are false.

Unrelated but i could use some help with quantum electrodynamics. How is the interaction between the electron and electromagnet fields defined or arrived at? I saw today a set of equations called Maxwell-Dirac equations that looked like a mix of maxwell equations and the Dirac equation, with a clear mix of the fields. Plz guide me in the right direction.

I feel this. Probably relating to the fact that the universe is mental and that science supports the materialistic worldview, and it has not yet or can't acknowledge that spirit exists.

Atheist here, I understand what he is getting at. When you actually have more than a superficial knowledge of the natural sciences, you will see things that are far greater than the human imagination could ever conceive and you believe in a higher power whether that is god or the universe itself.

Paraphrasing Alexander Pope:

A little learning is a dangerous thing ;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring :
There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again.
Fired at first sight with what the Muse imparts,
In fearless youth we tempt the heights of Arts ;
While from the bounded level of our mind
Short views we take, nor see the lengths behind,
But, more advanced, behold with strange surprise
New distant scenes of endless science rise !
So pleased at first the towering Alps we try,
Mount o’er the vales, and seem to tread the sky ;
The eternal snows appear already past,
And the first clouds and mountains seem the last ;
But those attained, we tremble to survey
The growing labours of the lengthened way ;
The increasing prospect tires our wandering eyes,
Hills peep o’er hills, and Alps on Alps arise !

The Pierian spring was the ritual temple site of Orpheus in the valley below Mt Olympus that gave the drinker knowledge.

Accurate summary. Atheists who get scared of reality and run back to faith (or to drink, or drugs, or nigger-worship) in order to feel comfy are weak little bitches. Face reality head-on, accept the fact that you will die one day, and make your own meaning and purpose in life.

Extreme cope. You guys are closer to the image of religion that you push than legitimate religious people are.
