Sup /med/ I got my BSc in July but I can't start the masters/residency until February of 2022, due to COVID this was the first available spot unfortunately. Is there anything I can do to make myself more competitive when I finally get my masters degree? Because of this I'll be 27 when I become a doctor and my end goal would be to teach at the medical faculty here. I work as a research nurse at the cardiology right now and also do some nightshifts as a nursing assistant at the COVID department.

Not joking. However, my Uni really emphasizes on anatomy as a knock out subject. Older textbooks are even better than modern ones because they are more detailed than modern ones. In modern textbooks important sections of the head like the fossa pterygopalatina aren´t described really in detail.
Old textbooks from like the 90s are way better. (For example Waldeyer wrote a really good one in German).

Watch some rxn mechanism videos so you have an idea of what all the skills are eventually building towards.
There's a lot of little details you have to learn before you can understand bigger picture chemistry, remember that the point of the class is to learn how molecules are built and to develop molecular intuition.

Also, the sooner you expose yourself to functional groups and IUPAC nomenclature, the better off you will be.

Well, my life as an unemployed MD with an uncertain future is pretty depressing too.
The savings I had are long gone and I'm not sure how to re-enter any kind of working life because my options are pharma and consulting yet my previous work experience is all in geriatric hospital work. Yesterday i got Paronychia diagnosis by a doctor.

recently according to her, they have a new approach in how to cure it better, i was tasked to buy a bottle of ASOL, a box of compresses and tape. I was to soak the compress with the Asol and keep in on my finger for 1 day, if it didn't improve i will get Heracillin(antibiotic) and use it 3 times/day for 10 days or until fully cured. If that doesn't work i was issued to come back and they are gonna poke it.

Now my question is, before this new path they would give you antibiotics day 1.

Do you guys use textbooks at all in your pre-clinical years?
I find lectures + Anki suffices but I'm not sure if I'm doing anything bad by not reading the textbooks

As long as you're familiar with the basic pharmacological mechanisms and basic physiological routes and structures you're free to learn wherever you want.
You may also want to have a clear definition of what you consider as "suffice". Lecture+ anki grind may be enough to pass the exam or have a good grade but not so much to store rationalized information to further use into your clinical curriculum.

Guys, got a problem. I was pretty sick in the beginning of this year and had to sit around all day. Then Corona made me sit around even more for work.
I get weird symptoms sometimes, heart racing, chest pounding, pain on my upper spine (not extreme), crazy hard muscles around some vertebrae, panic attacks that last for half an hour or so.
I'm 99% convinced it's because of a problem with my upper spine. Doctors ruled out the heart and a slip disc. One doctor recommended doing sports, so I did that, but last time I did pull-ups, my heart started pounding again and I heard it beating extremely loud in my left ear.

What the fuck is going on?
