Personally I think uniqueness proofs are easier to follow when they're written by contradiction. When you suppose that some x1 and x2 satisfy a given property, most people are inclined to think of them as distinct objects since their representations are distinct. So you might as well just say they're distinct and make it a proof by contradiction.
