Jew here. Space travel is of course important but I of course also understand prioritizing other things during the next year or two. I don't know why anyone cares what a weed movie actor/director thinks about space exploration.

Private industry seems to be doing a better job of it, anyway. Let the billionaires spend their fortunes relatively efficiently and just have them work with NASA's trained astronauts. Private citizens making up a big part of the industry also probably makes it a bit harder for the US/China to send a robot or person and proclaim "this 1/4 of Mars is American/Chinese sovereign territory" or some shit.

It's inevitable that the people of a country will develop a sense of national ambition. Often times, these feelings result in someone suggesting "let's go invade our neighbors." This is basically how the Indians got eliminated, how the world wars got started, etc.. I see space as an alternative to that.

It's basically the equivalent to building the pyramids or some giant monument
