Serious question.

While lurking /b/ you sometimes come across illegal content in thumbnails. Even if you don't click the pictures the illegal content is stored on your hdd and not deleted like cache. How do you get rid of the thumbnails?

this is why i no longer lurk /b/

thumbnails from all the boards are stored on your hdd. whether you intentionally or unintentionally wanted that

Don't worry about it; you're never going to get in trouble for that shit. I encrypt my HDD, but that's just because I'm paranoid.

would clearing cache be all we need to do to remove it?

if you clear your cache even only every once in awhile, all of the erasing and overwriting will destroy any chance of recovering what was once there

besides, thumbnails will be stored right along side the actual page in cache so you can prove you weren't necessarily looking for it

retard, or troll

guys, chill the fuck out, nothing is every going to happen. by the time something would happen (say, you send an email to the fbi announcing your appropriation of state secrets and intention of nuking DC) your daily computer usage will have long since overwritten anything that was on your hdd

and if that's not enough to soothe your paranoid nerves: download DBAN, go over it over 9000 times, crack open the hdd, melt it in an oven, dump it in the ocean

tl;dr: the fbi is not going to spend (tens of) thousands of dollars on you, you're not worth it

if your using a recent version of firefox you can clear recent history to remove all traces of your /b/ visit, then use a shredder program to randomize your free space just in case you feel like the FBI will come knocking sometime soon.

It's stored in your cache (depending on what browser, you should be able to find it in Tools or something).

When you surf the Internet all the files required to view that webpage are first downloaded to your HDD, then the browser takes those files and creates a webpage.

That's why it is sometimes faster when you revist webpages you've already been to if there is no new information, or flash games load quicker a second time around - it's already stored on your computer.

>> No.1226352

Thumbnails dont necessarily go into your Temp. Internet files. And you could always clear that folder out. Although it regularly cleans itself anyways. You won't be able to dig it up after you visit /b/ when there is no cp on the page.

I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for cp from /b/. Usually CP charges come because you've given them some other reason to investigate you, and they poke around in your comp. You should be fine as long as you don't go out looking for cp like I do.

Everything you view is downloaded onto your computer.

By default, even things you delete aren't usually "deleted" immediately.

There are a number of cleaning tools(http://www.fileshredder.org/)) but I forgot most of their names, ones that actually wipe the area on the disk instead of just disassociating the address.
