I'm thinking that this is the only way to truly download your consciousness. I'm sure many of you have had this same thought.

Your brain is either 100% you or it's just a tool for your soul to link itself to reality, either way you need it to exist and to exist continuously.

Your brain a biological construction made of around 86 billion neurons. You lose around a gram of brain mass every year after age 20. Obviously, this decrease in mass isn't solely from the loss of neurons but it still comes out to a decrease of about 150 to 200 thousand per day. Which means you can lose quite a bit of brain tissue before things like Alzheimer's set in. You also gain new neurons every day but it's minuscule in comparison to what's being lost.

So, if you had some kind of artificial neuron that preformed the same actions as an organic one then you'd effectively be able to replace the dying neurons with a substitute. If you did this 86 billion times then you'd eventually become a machine without copying your brain or severing your chain of consciousness. Sort of like the Ship of Theseus paradox except instead of a ship crew going on a new boat it's your "consciousness" or "soul".

As scifi as it sounds I'm sure this is the method scientists will use in about 200 years to turn people into machines. What do you think?

The Moravec Transfer is a sound concept and it make take no century to accomplish one if one utilizes a retrovirusis to stimulate the neurogenesis process to create younger copies of existing brain cells.

Fundamentally, there needs to be "bidirectional" thought for any transfer in order to preserve ego continuity. If we imagine a mind as like water or some fluid, and the brain as a vessel for it, then just "pouring" the mind into a new vessel doesn't preserve continuity; the new mind in the new vessel can't communicate back to old mind in the old vessel.
However, if we consider simply connecting the two vessels and siphoning the mind from one to the other (at whatever speed) while the new mind can talk to the old mind as the latter is transferred to the former, then continuity is maintained and death does not occur.
Thus the Moravec Transfer/Gradual neuron replacement or the Mind Shift are viable methods for a mind upload, but those two methods are far harder to achieve than simply creating a copy of one's mind. The Moravec Transfer only changes the substrate and the Mind Shift requires a full understanding of your own internal processes (autosentience).

Robot... Performing interaction of atom thick carbon.

Are you retarded or only degenerate?

Electron on brain works with wave potential, you can't replace it by robot, conciusness wouldn't have to merge, and you'll just kill human and have artificial machine like that.

We like resonance work on thing carbon string, our resonant frequency, and therefore DESIGN OF ELECTRON ITSELF, is different than metal electron.

You cannot let racing dogs watch the sheep.

Stem cells to repair your brain will come before brain uploading. We need to use the tools we already have

No clue, considering scientists can't even simulate extremely simple consciousness and some single celled organisms that don't even have neurons still can have sex then maybe it isn't as simple as just "muh neurons" The technology could be forever outside of our grasp

much of the brain exists to regulate bodily functions. you need the "gut" feelings and "goose bumps" to feel human, to feel you.

A brain without a body is barely consciouss.

You can't upload consciousness. Because consciousness goes beyond what is in this simulation.

Its impossible due to fundamental QM restrictions. But.. well, since we still know shit about lots of things, including QM itself, probably in the next 300 years we can make it. 500 years, most likely.

As a sidebar to this discussion: why are some people so obsessed with the idea of 'downloading their consciousness into a machine'?

Many people don't like the idea of dying or having their brain rot away into senility, so an alternative is appealing.
