Anyone going here? How's are the masters programs? How are you liking or hating the student life and the university overall?

For Americans/internationals what kind of presence does McGill have outside of Canada?

burnside a shit

Did my undergrad there. Am a local from Montreal. It's a very good university with good international standing. The reputation of the university probably played some role in my being admitted to a top university for my PhD. The student life is ok, but most students are Americans so they can be annoying.

What level of "top university" are you talking about? My gpa is fine but autism prevents me from asking profs for summer research, so I'm worried about getting stuck in Concordia or god forbid uqam.

100% agree on American students -- they keep partying downtown and afaik are single handedly responsible for destroying mtl with covid

Halfway through first term of U2/second year for context

Just apply for a USRA. Applications are due in February. Now is the best time to do research because you won't be expected to go to retarded in-person meetings or help out with conferences.

You won't believe me but I'm at MIT. In spite of my autism, I did ask a professor to supervise some of my research which landed me a paper in a proceedings conference as an undergrad. I also worked in a lab with another professor getting funded by an NSERC award. I highly advise you take steps to do research as an undergrad, it's really a good way to get a competitive edge in grad school applications.

Just finished my Master's there. Can't speak much for undergrad academics, but the research and facilities are solid. Can't go wrong by going to McGill.

Yeah I think I'll just brute-force it and go with anyone who will take me. Last term I asked a prof and he said I didn't have enough math background, but I think that by now I should have enough. Au pire I'll just do it for free solely for the experience and the CV gains. I'm not sure exactly how hard it is to get into a (math) grad school without research but listening to people at McGill it sounds impossible.

grats on MIT anon

Assuming you are going out of Canada, do people know about McGill? People say it's cats pajamas, but I feel that it might be a bit of unwarranted pride instead of legitimate prestige.

Au pire, c'est déjà pas trop mal de booster ton CV.

Keep up the good work anon.

Outside of Canada, people usually know about UofT or McGill. This is from personal experience, but I feel like I've heard more about McGill in the US, and I've heard from a Chinese colleague that UofT is much more popular there.
