Read plot summary.

Sound stupid.

The idea of nanites that operate at near absolute zero was interesting. There is a lot of usable matter out there at those temperatures and anything that could make use of it would be uber succesful.

Well it won a Hugo award. It is a good book. It kind of summed up the life and death of our solar system but kept it within a human time frame so the story didn't have to jump from one character to another. The protagonist is uninteresting and basically only there to give the reader a window into much more interesting aspects of the setting, plus the whole love story thing and the climax of the story were pretty damn lame. However the sci-fi aspects are damn interesting and the depiction of how the world reacts to a slow, innevitable demise is cool.
