>Pal, you're a failure of a person in the most economically free country
Again, how do you not realize that you're the bad guy here?

Not one (1) person who has ever existed has had medical insurance because they were somehow taking advantage of economic freedom. Medicaid was sufficient to see a doctor, i.e. there was no need to find a way to get anything else. Trump recently repealed medicaid for anyone too disabled to work.

None of this is relevant to asking questions on this meat packing forum anyway, unless I'm deemed a failure of a person because I'm too disabled to pay out of pocket for medical services, and thus undeserving of "compassion." lucky to have you here to make that assessment and filter out the site's users, so you may continue to pretend to be smart/a doctor in peace.

This is merely addressing your previous ad hominems, because why not

Hey /med/ how difficult is psychiatry as a specialty? I am thinking about switching gears entirely and getting into med specifically for psych. Don't know if it will be worth the gamble though. I hear it's generally an easier specialty to match into but I am curious about actual day to day difficulty. On average how many types of drugs and their interactions should you have to know? Is it all just diagnosing according to symptoms in the ICD or DSM? Would be grateful for any info as I’m already in my mid 20s with a fairly useless degree. I loathe the idea of academia. I’ll probably have to attend med school in Ireland or Australia which is fine as I have dual citizenship but I am trying to gather more info before I take the plunge. Last thing I want is to get into med only to wish I went to law school.

It's not a particularly difficult medical specialty; but anything can be practiced on a high level and I'd say that the ceiling is pretty high when it comes to psychiatry. The amount of drugs is pretty average, and it's definitely not just diagnosing according to guidelines.

talking about this, I'm going to one; is it true that Psychiatrists are the Ultimate Jews? What I do before I go to a specialist is that I do all the test required before the Consult (because they charge you once for ordering tests and another one to diagnose you), but there are no Physical tests for their things so I have no idea on to avoid getting scammed by those dudes.

He's right. Indians ruined the world. Fucking pieces of shit. I'm not racist but i seriously wish they would fuck off and stay in their shithole.

You're in disadvantage with everyone, being from latin america i'll guess your teachers were pieces of shit and gave you bad grades for giggles, that's a red flag for international programs since they pretend all the world is just and teaches well. You'll need a contact in the hospital you're applying to, you can pretty much only get in through nepotism, if you're autistic you're better off selling benzos in some rural town.

Also, it's surprising you don't know how psychiatrists are like. I'll assume you don't even study medicine yet. You need a lot of mental fotitude because you'll be dealing with the worst humanity has to offer, and some who stopped being human too. By the worst i mean sociopaths (think of a gang nigger, but pathological) who will bitch for everything and hit other patients just to get your attention and breaks shit to make you enter to the cell and pickpocket your stuff. You may be disheartened from looking at the chronic schizos having become hollows. As for the actual practice, they do need to do physical exams, sometimes more exhaustive than other specialists, their anamnesis take an hour long at least and the whole life of the patient is discussed, you need great social skills to guide the conversation with schizos who derail it and make sense of delusional fucks.

Who the fuck goes into this field expecting to help anyone? If you want to "save lives" become an emergentologist or an intensivist, but then you will realize you really don't help anyone and whoever comes fucked ends up fucked, then you'll get disappointed and depressed.

Doctors don't save lives. At most they slow down death, which is mostly defined by how patients live their lives. Medicine is essentially a service, and its goal is people's respite.

If you become an epidemiologist or go into public health, then your goal will be to prevent harm, but your tools and your targets will be far different from those of medical practice. You can offer some of these, like education, as a separate service, and thus it should have separate cost, but you can't force them on people because they won't give a shit unless they're interested. That's why if some fucker wants pills give them away if you're not getting in trouble, nobody gives a shit anyways.

Lunox (UK, benadryl?) sleeping tablets, min dose, fuck up my heart rate while falling asleep - my heart seems to pause for a moment before starting again repeatedly. I found some information that suggested the cause of the side effect, so I'm not asking for the explanation.

Is there anything else I can use to reset my sleep schedule, besides this shitty antihistamine?

Psychiatry is not much harder than clinical psychology. The part that makes it harder is needing to learn a resident's level of medical knowledge on every other organ system, but once you've graduated that stage it's pretty much the same job.

Which isn't to say psychiatry isn't insanely hard. So is clinical psychology. Dealing with mentally ill patients is more draining and demanding than you can ever imagine. At least with a medical degree you can yeet out of there and do nephrology, pathology, ICU or something else that's easy and comfy.

Back in my days this is the place where memes were born and then it expanded to the whole world, now it's the opposite. This change was gradual and I did not notice it until a few years ago. Few OC and a great loss on the duality of posts.
Nowadays everyone posts expecting a reaction and going into endless and senseless flame wars, back in the day obvious bait was obvious.
Part of growing up is realizing that change is the only constant, so better have fun while the ride lasts instead of longing for days of old.

Both me and my dad are medics. One of my classmates and my former resident almost die from the shit, both are fat fucks, the resident chick had to be intubated, her chest plaque was completely white..

My dad got notices every two days that a colleague from his year died. This went on for two months. My dad retired because of the pandemic, the day he handed over his resignation letter, he met the ambulance driver from the clinic, who was diagnosed and given 2 weeks of leave, aparently healthy. My dad warned him to request another week off but the guy didn't listen. He died the following week.

This disease was a fucking mess in my country. This changed everything since the government took this chance to make the biggest thefts in our history, and they can't be prosecuted because it's all legal in paper. Doctors weren't given any safety equipment whatsoever, deaths were misattributed to underlying diseases, ICU beds were taken and unused for propaganda purposes in the height of the shit. Med student here
No surprises with this comment, but definitely shocked on how there is a rush to surgery.
Last year during an OB rotation, ED doc called for presumed ruptured ectopic.
No beta HCG performed, was told the patient was 14 weeks Preggo and experienced severe abd pain with a positive FAST for large amounts of blood.
The patients hgb was 14 on arrival among other stable objective findings.
I follow the OB who takes the patient to surgery, finds no signs of active bleeding, and only finds a ruptured ovarian cyst.
This was performed via laparotomy.
I’ve seen this happen with general surgery too, patients rushed to OR with no imaging to confirm a diagnosis or need for emergent operation.

The patient was hemodynamically stable without objective data to support the findings, like I put in the original post.
no one is arguing against the normal processes to perform emergent surgery.
It’s the rush to perform procedures without supporting data and putting patients at risk unnecessarily.
At the very least I would of thought the OB would validate the US by performing it himself.

Unclamp before you're replaced by a machine. That's what the medical-industrial complex has already turned you into anyway, just one more cost cutting, simplifying, step remains.

I mean let's be real here. How much doctor is needed to hand out a prescription of zoloft or brain damaging cholesterol meds? Surgery will be remote, then it will be automated.

>> No.12219377

>>12219224
>. How much doctor is needed to hand out a prescription of zoloft
Depends in your goal. If your goal is to effectively treat the patient, you need a fucking lot. You need someone who is able to circumvent the patient's coping mechanisms and set him up on a mindset that will allow him to work things out, the antidepressant is only there to pull him out of the wallowing pit.

>Surgery will be remote
Remote where? Every "medical" branded bullshit costs 10 times its normal price. Just a few years ago before the battlestation meme, if you wanted to buy a vertical orientated display it costed fucking thousands because the only market for it were rad niggers. It's the same fucking display, no software involved. It's ridiculous. It's unthinkable the world will have access to "remote surgery" machines, and it's even more ridiculous that they'll be effectively put to use since they're hugeass bulky barrels, and the more parts a system has the more things can go wrong. Also, it's as if you thought cutting off your hand and putting tongs in exchange is any improvement.

>then it will be automated.
This implies surgeons will learn to code. Codemonkeys can't speak to people, they can't even fucking sell a USB adapter without calling you a retard, how am I supposed to believe they will ever play a meaningful part in healthcare as a service?

>Depends in your goal.
My goal is to sell my product while facilitating the right balance of regulatory theater, ritual, and plausible deniability to make it profitable, minimal risk, and sustainable as possible. The fate of the patient is only relevant so far as his perception of his treatment and the basis of his lot in life (for which he has sought out treatment).

>Remote where?
Really depends, honestly. I would probably be limited at first to trials by large institutions, specialized surgeries for which there is no local surgeon who is competent to carry it out, cases like covid where people are kept apart and commuting is halted. Gradually however the inputs to the equipment can be captured and used to train a (managed) neural network. This in parallel with other more specific programming would facilitate automation, which I'm sure we can test out on prisoners and people in developing nations. Whether it would become the norm is another matter. People who are in their late 20's onward today, overall, would probably never trust it/ But the following generations would be raised with the notion from birth.

>This implies surgeons will learn to code.
Their inputs will be captured and recorded as described above, and some will be paid to train the programmer how to train the software. There are also some people who'll understand aspects of both. Perfection isn't required, they're just patients. You can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs along the way.

Any medical coder chads here?

>> No.12220465

i have good reason to believe i might be a familial short sleeper (i have a genetic mutation associated with it, my dad and his dad also sleep very little; my dad is fairly young, so i don't think it's age related). i have a tendency to sleep a little less than normal (i'm 24, sleep approximately 5.5 to 6.5 hours), assuming i'm not woken up.

i typically set my alarm for about 6 hours. if i sleep well, i'm pretty much energetic for 16, and then i start to get sleepy around hour 17/18.

i know, though, that sleep deprivation is notorious for not being very noticeable (e.g. sleep deprived people are likely to think they're fine, even if they are actually underperforming). how can i tell if i'm depriving myself of sleep? i don't like sleeping "in" (for 8 hours instead of 6) because it just feels like a waste of time, and i don't ever feel much better for it.
