Why have some plants evolved psychedelic compounds as defense mechanisms instead of poisonous compounds?

Because they were based and redpilled

It's all about the median lethal dose and body-weight, a lot of those psychedelic compounds would be toxic to smaller animals, or animals with differing metabolic pathways.

Because when retarded mammal instantly dies, it never learns.

Humans are faggots and an exception. They literally get off of pain (chili) and will constantly try to mix multiple drugs at once.

I mean, caffeine is highly toxic to some animals, like dogs, but humans consume vast amounts of it.

Caffeine is a drug like any other.

Nobody even likes coffee, it tastes like wet cigar mixed with boiling asphalt and everyone who gets a kick out of it every morning will deny it because they're addicted.

Keep justifying your alcohol addiction and cope via blackouts with you totally liking a taste of thinner mixed with meth.

I don't drink anymore but you clearly have the palate of a child. A lot of alcohol is bad, but man a good scotch or red wine is definitely worth having

You're raising the bar now. You were initially saying nobody actually liked the flavor of any alcohol, now you're asking me to cite a paper on whether or not it's healthy. I don't think it is healthy for me, that's why I don't drink anymore. I don't deny that people enjoy the flavor of it though.

No I'm not, I wrote that none of you faggots like the taste and only say that because you're fucking degenerates who are addicted to a drug and that's literally a fact, if people enjoyed the taste and not getting drunk, they would have found a way to drink alcohol-free shit and coom mixture already.

Stop thinking of evolution as having a goal or a reason. The ones that produced chemicals survived to reproduce slightly more.

Man (and many mammals) are fairly large, new, and metabolically competent. These compounds were designed for insects, molds, bacteria, small animals, etc. Some plants may still be producing defenses against animals and conditions which no longer even exist.

Methylxanthines are the best example. Insecticide. Kills large canines even.

You're simply assuming these substances were a defense mechanism. What makes this even more unlikely is that, in the case of these plant-born ergolines, which aren't synthetized by the plants, but by endophytic, symbiotic fungi.

Hello retard department. There are plenty of products with the coffee taste but no caffeine effects. I love chocolate cakes and ice creams with the coffee taste. It just tastes good. Also as mentioned earlier, many people drink decaffeinated coffee for the taste.

Nobody likes tea either, right?

psychedelic compounds are poisonous, they are compounds that mimic natural compounds to disrupt your natural processes, humans are big so a bit of caffeine won't kill but it will kill an insect.
truth is you shouldn't take anything that alters your natural cycles/processes because they are near perfect. but m*dern society tells you stress and sleep are not important and can be fixed with poison

How does that make it less likely they are there to kill insects? If the fungi and plants are in a symbiotic relationship then the plant must be getting some benefit from the fungi's presence. Maybe getting attacked less by insects is the benefit.
