I think unless you're going to oxbridge or have a very specific program in mind, it's not worth it. The US has a near-monopoly on the best grad programs.

Why are you thinking of doing this?

Shit pay, even compared to purchasing power it's still shit.
Quality of life isn't that good unless you live in certain cities that are neither too big nor too small.
Women aren't that much better looking than anywhere else in the world, they might be skinnier than anglos, but that isn't much of an accomplishment.
People aren't all cheerful and happy as portrayed, more like lazy and indolent.
Plenty of nigs in urban areas and ethniks even started pouring out.

Shit's fucked basically. If you must go to Europe I'd recommend rural or small town areas of DACH region (excellent pay, no nigs, hot women) or major cities of eastern europe within EU (good pay compared to purchasing power, hot women, no nigs or ethniks at all).

But that's just my advice, you can do whatever the fuck you want.

And yet it's true, maybe it wasn't 30 years ago but today? The material is the same everywhere, the tests are standardized to the max.

The only thing the US still has is the proximity of its capital/business investment to its academia.
If you're a PhD student out of Berkeley or Cornell you can launch a startup and immediately have massive VC backing and find business angels if your idea is good, if you're from LMU or Humboldt you will struggle. Same thing in France and in the UK, only Switzerland does alright with Lausanne but still nowhere near the mad amount of VC concetration you will find on both american coasts.

The massive brain drain from Europe to the US over the last 60 years happened for a reason.

t. has no idea what grad school is

Sure you take the same classes and learn the same material. This is a single year of your program. The next five-six years you're doing the actual bulk of the PhD which is research, and if you take a look at what universities are pushing out the highest proportion of top-level research it isn't even close.
Plus, even in our shit country that hates giving money to anything that's not the military or the economy, we still have the most funding sources for research. What I've gathered from my EU colleagues is that securing funding for large projects over there is a nightmare.

OP if you want to be "successful" in academia, you should stay in America. By sucess, I mean things like have a productive phd experience with a good advisor, go on to do research at top institutions for your postdoc, and obtain professor status at R1 institution. Europe has a few good scientists, but most institutions in Europe aren't going to be the best place to develop as a researcher.

If you're trying to go into industry and don't really care about pursuing academia, I'd say Europe is ideal. You get a PhD in 3 years, it's a lot easier, and you get to hang out in Europe and actually enjoy your life and be happy.

>> No.12057086

>>12056814
Not to mention that in most places in Europe a PhD student is treated like a researcher and gets paid a salary and also has other benefits like paid vacation time, better work-life balance, free healthcare, student discounts and access to student appartments

>> No.12057477

>>12055492
Yeah I'll concede that. But it's not bc America is good at science, it's just running off old prestige and money, attracting good scientists.

I also meant pure academia. It is reasonable to peruse a PhD in industry to bump up your wage, eg in medicinal chemistry, industrial engineering...
