Hey /sci/

What are your thoughts on pharmacy school? Anyone in it?

I'll be graduating in Spring '11 with a degree in microbiology, and I just started looking in to pharmacy...Seems like it's balls easy to get into (they take students right out of high school, wtf?), and an almost guaranteed 100k salary?

It is all about matching the prescription to the pill and checking to make sure the doctor isn't prescribing a fatal combination.

Quick google search says the average salary is 100k.

Easy to get into? Maybe, but probably not. Definitely not easy to finish. $100k when you're done is certainly doable, but you'll probably be in retail (walgreen's, cvs, etc.). The hours are the same/worse as a regular cashier. Weekends, late nights (24 hour pharmacies). Also, I don't know if there is a lot of upward movement in payscale. You may be at $100k your entire career.

I'm not saying it's a bad life, though. It's good work if you can get it.

I'm trying to see a downside to doing 2 years of school for a 100k salary.

Aside from getting burnt out on it, I don't see one. You're making enough while doing it to continue education if you want to keep yourself from burning out...Kind of something I'm thinking about doing, seems like there must be a catch.

>2 moar years of school
>job anywhere I want
>100k starting

i work as a postdoc at stanford. one of my labmates is a postdoc who has a Pharm.D. if you're interested in doing research, it is certainly possible to do this...

otoh, you could end up working at walgreen's for the rest of your life...

I dont know what kind of 3rd world country pharmacy school you're applying to, but most Pharm schools are 4 years to earn a Pharm D usually, and there are certain pre req courses you need to take. Most of the time they're looking for people with a 3.5 GPA, and on top of if, you'll need to take the PCAT, assuming you're in the US.

tl;dr do your homework, retard.

The schools that take students out of high school are only for retail pharmacists. I was accepted to the st. louis college of pharmacy but didn't go. I am now a grad student in a pharmacy school, but not a pharmacy student. I see a lot of pharmacy students and they are total douchebags...

What the fuck are you talking about. I thought if you went to pharmacy school you where a pharmacy student.

If you go to med school, you're a med student.

Explain yourself nigger
