My boss just a bit ago perfectly summarized the differences between engineers and scientists.

Scientists just stop whenever. Because their work is largely academic, and never practical, there is no clear goal to meet and whenever "enough" data is gathered, you can stop.

Engineering is qualitatively different. When an engineer creates a product that never existed, it is "trivial" because we have some "formula" for torque that the engineer "memorizes." The derision is clear. Fortunately engineers know better, and take the step that scientists fear: getting something done that actually works. Solving fifty small problems working against you. Building the instruments scientists only dimly envision to take the measurements they use to prove to themselves their worth.

But we engineers don't need such pomp and circumstance around us. We invent, we derive, we design and we build, and then we take our boatloads of cash and go home to sleep with our wives.

How's that grant proposal working out, /sci/entists?

Well, without scientists there is no "start"

It's kind of like how Liberal Art/Social Science fags look down on Lawfags, even though they are the ones who ultimately put their ideologies and solutions into practice.

Fuck no OP. The goal in science is not just to collect data, the goal is to understand some phenomenon. You can't just stop when you have data, that's only part of the process.

I'm not even responding to the rest of the post because the money part is just trolling.

the only thing that draws me is the picture which must mean that OP is a troll so fuck you

Social Science fag here. We do not look down on lawfags. We generally treat them as equals.

Everybody knows engineers are the oompa loompas of science. The brilliant scientific minds create the theories, engineers merely steal our work and make something with it. We toss you a bone so be respectful to your superior.

As an engineer, I approve of this thread. OP is not a faggot.

As an engineer who works around a shitton of scientists (chemists and physicists) I can say that this is what they'd like to believe. Truth is, I am still investigating the consequences of their little pet theories long after they've demonstrated they can jerk off to the peer review process. They understand shit.

You just don't understand what they do. Now go fix my tools, oompa loompa.

the real difference: scientists probe the innermost workings of the universe to make the discoveries and provide engineers with the materials, the laws, the properties, and the understanding so that YOU can do your job.

without science you'd still be replacing wagon wheels on the oregon trail

Obvious troll.. But I will play your game... Firstly engineers are scientist if they are doing that... Secondly engioneers build an create using the tools of science. When was the last time you saw an engieer do shit without paper , a computer, a caclulator. or sove the problem using component he built completely him self. NEVER
