"2" and "4" are symbols. They have definitions because of the contexts they are used in. It's probably true that the people saying this aren't thinking of modular arithmetic (or any legitimizing conceptual framework) specifically, but they're also not saying that if you put two dollars into a box twice, you can take five dollars out. The complaint is against people who mistake the map for the territory, or argue against the idea that the map only becomes meaningful through it's interpretation.

The takaway I'd like to emphasize is that for many BLM activists, especially organizers who tend to be more tied in to the more esoteric Black Power ideologies, the idea that some things are strictly right and others wrong is a form of oppression. This obviously implicates the entire field of math and much of STEM. No wonder they major in Racial Studies. For these BLM people, emotions are just as valid as, say, statistical realities, so you get things like the hilarious and at this point widespread BLM response to black crime statistics: "statistics can be warped."
