Spic here. I just finished my hospital internship and i was about to start my social service year so i can get my degree after it, but pussied out of fear of doing something stupid (because i know a lot less of medicine than what i should at this point) and asked for six months to study in preparation for that. I started reading the basics (physics, chemistry, biochemistry, cell structure) and i realized that i forgot most of it, then after getting tired of not remembering anything i wanted to go to /v/ as usual, but went here instead.

my point is that it's not addressing drug or alcohol use by doctors, just that people see them doing it. it also seems a bit hypocritical to chastise young doctors for things inappropriate such as "photo holding alcohol" when you could find a photo of most prominent doctors holding a glass of wine at some point.

i'm not arguing that you should upload photos of yourself smoking fat joints or vortexing beers, but the metrics used seem to be out for blood rather than helping anyone.

hey guys, i feel like wealth and success keep escaping me. I was at a top 15 phd program in the usa and the advisors were trying to hand me their projects and wouldnt let me do mine. I made a proposal and my advisor said it was a 'rookie mistake'. I knew they were stupid so i left and went to a mid-low tier (but not caribbean) allopathic med school. two years later an old lab of mine invited me back and said theyd give me a phd if i completed my research so I went back, did the research, and got a phd, but the phd is from a low tier uni that would allow me to have done the work somewhere else. I made a huge discovery but it's only in JCI and I am a cofirst but third position on both papers because of the egos of the fellows (MDs). Went back to med school. years later someone did that proposal and it got funded as a 200 million dollar company. so now I have two third position cofirsts and a phd, but am fucking poor, not doing the things I love, and am in my early thirties (i did a masters and research after I graduated and before phd).

my friend, a fellow in a subspecialty of im says im golden if I just go for im and fellowship in my research field. It would be nice but I want to go clin path, but im warned of the job market. meanwhile the usa is getting fucked up right now and I feel like ive wasted my life and should have stuck with research for money. Arbutus is going way up and they tried to hire me as a scientist after my phd but i decided to go to med school.
I also know how covid worksand could make a new therapeutic on par with dex with a safe medication but I dont want the info stolen and dont know a lab that would let me do the work and not just take the finding for themselves. dont know what the fuck i should do

Maaaaaan, I try so hard. I try so hard to show myself from my best side, I come off as distant I guess because I am rather shy about everything romantic or sexual, even hinting at it as you do with flirting is really hard for me. And also to recognize that I believe. Also I don't meet many girls that I am interested in. I work at the hospital, I study, I work out, I game, I hang with friends and all that takes up quite a lot of time. But ofc in the summer when there is no more studying to do and no more uni I have a lot of free (not really, masters thesis and working out more) time and that
>have sex, smoke weed, have fun
hit really really close to home. Thats what I want, to enjoy the time I have. But I feel like the girl is misssing. I am missing the connection, the intimacy, the soft touch. I never ever had it and I was always looking for that love, for that playful, good side of life that knows how to have fun and takes me along, because I don't. I have always just worked or taken excessive amounts of drugs. I was never at the beach or at the club just checking out girls and vibing and seeing what goes. And when I'm there I feel like I don't fit in because what am I doing there? I'm here to pick up girls and nothing else. I don't want skin cancer, I can't put sunscreen on my back, I don't drink.
The ones that I want want nothing from me and the ones that want me are mostly not my type or I don't notice that they like me.
But I worked out hard for the past 3.5 years and I have a body that I can be proud of.

Please help me enjoy this summer so that I can finally fill that void inside my heart and find a little peace. Please.

They did a urine test and tried to prescribe an ssri. I rejected their offer and experimented with a low fodmap diet without much success for about six months while travelling overseas.

I should have worked out IBS was not the issue sooner I suppose but I was having other issues early on which I suspect were due to an ulcer partially blocking my pancreatic duct.

Once I realised the food choices I was making which helped were actually tied to neutralising stomach acids I made additional dietary changes and saw a different doctor.

The spec is called radiation oncology and the doctor works in a team with the medical physicist. They both work together so they can hit the tumor with the radiation beam, it takes some calculations and radiation dosages/area (the tumor is separated in more areas, so the center of the tumor recieves the most radiation dosage and it decreases gradually towards the periphery), take in account the organs that are at risk of radiation, the power of the beam, etc. Besides the radiation accelerator, they also perform brachytherapy which is basically the implantation of radioactive "seeds" in a person's organ to deliver a big radiation dosage directly into the tumor.

Idk what can I tell you more from a practical view. You don't have to put your hands on the patient, you just recommend how many radiotherapy sessions a patient will have and how will you approach that tumor (dosage, angle, etc.)

It's in their best interest, you can't force them if they're dumb and can't make the difference between good or bad. Yes, it is annoying, but seems a bit more fun than being closed in a dark room with a computer and read x-rays every day. Cytostatic drug idea. So as you know large somatic tumors will eventually start to run on anaerobic glycolysis, meaning they will accumulate lactic acid. If we could produce a drug capable of blocking the monocarboxylate transporters, the protein responsible for transporting lactic acid out of the cell, on the tumor cells causes cell lysis due to build-up of lactic acid and decrease in pH? That you made it to medical school in the first place says something.

You know that feeling you get after you just graduated, your head bursting with relevant knowledge like you're fucking rayman, with medical knowledge, logical propositions, and mathematical figures floating about your head, diagnosing and prescribing like a character on House. Neither do I. Neither does anyone.

Go to the doctor's with anything more than covid or a broken arm, and marvel as they google your symptoms, or rather, they use some special doctor database to try to save face and maintain for themselves the illusion. I'm not saying they don't have knowledge. However, there is a significant discrepancy between the amount of knowledge they pretend to have, and the knowledge a 12-year-old with a medical dictionary could "have" -- or could look up anyway.

What a doctor is supposed to be is a master inference-maker -- "these symptoms therefore this treatment," Making inferences is a skill that requires actual thought. But nope, just any fucking retard can become a doctor. Any shitskin can train to be an EMH from star trek, and perform the duties of any doctor.

Point is, it's not how it should be, but any fucking retard can be a doctor, and you idiots apparently don't "know" anything.

Because radiation scatters when it hits something. That means, if you blast a tumor with radiation, the surrounding tissue is getting sub lethal doses of radiation which can cause mutations. and lead to more cancer. Gamma knife has gotten pretty good at this in that it focuses tons of low energy radiation beams into a focal spot which causes lethal damage at the focal spot and deals little damage to the surrounding tissue because it's so low energy when each beam scatters.

Triptans are serotonergic. Anything that affects monoamine neurotransmitter uptake can cause euphoria and visual hallucinations. Most drugs affect monoamine neurotransmitters.

idk if this is the right place to ask but im a doing a bachelors degree in theoretical physics and considering specializing in medical physics during my masters. Anyone studied it here, knows pros and cons, employment possibilities?
