I have been a PA in cardiology for 4 years. I always offer people to help them read them in the hospital, but interns are fucking hopeless. They won’t learn anything because “he he you’re a midlevel ha ha funni.” Once an EM resident’s attending told him to ask me how to read ekgs and the resident refused and he got his ass chewed out right in front of me. It was fucking hilarious.
I don’t think people realize that a PA in a specific specialty (like cardio) will know more about that specific specialty than a resident, or even a real doctor in a different specialty would. And yes, residents are not real doctors.

NPs have full practice authority in many states already. Any dental fags here? I got my wisdom tooth extracted (upper right) and it was complicated, the surgeon had to split it in 4 and spent some time between the x-ray and my mouth to see how to extract it without breaking my fucking maxilla (no pain btw, it was amazing).

But now, after 24 hours from surgery, it's swollen and I have no idea how much it takes for the swelling to go away, I didn't ask him that, he just told me what to NOT do in the meantime (smoking, drinking soda or hot beverages, don't exercise, etc). I took plenty of NSAIDs and I don't feel any pain, but the swelling feels extremely annoying, like it's protruding through my jaw and my right jaw looks like a balloon. The internet gives me mixed results (3 to 5 days, two weeks, etc)

NPs need to get a nursing degree first, which makes them an RN. NP schools are largely online and extremely easy to get into (near 100% acceptance rates). They only have 600 clinical hours of training.

They are basically PAs that don’t have as much training. PAs need to have over 1200 hours of clinical training to graduate. Both PAs and NPs can prescribe meds, and depending on the state, neither of the actually need to work under the supervision of a doctor. In certain states NPs and PAs can literally run an ER or an urgent care on their own without any in-person supervision (but an MD will always “supervise” them over the phone). So if you don’t know what to do, you call the MD and if he doesn’t know what to do, he will be the one that gets sued in malpractice because you consulted him. It’s pretty based. Sometimes you can do the same with a resident.
After high school I enrolled in a 3+2 PA program. Pretty much allows me to practice medicine at the same level as a doctor, without actually having an MD degree or any of the liability that comes along in malpractice lawsuits. I work in cardio, so I am always “supervised” by an attending physician, but I see him in the morning and that’s pretty much it. In the rare occasion I don’t know what the fuck is wrong with someone, I’ll page him. Usually he doesn’t know what the fuck is going on either at this point, but since I consulted him, he gets all the blame if we fuck it up. Same would happen if I was an NP. Making $100k at 23 years old is based. But NPs need 4 years of undergrad instead of 3 like certain PA programs do.

Idk how Germany works when it comes to transfer residents or stuff like that but I'm pretty sure you can go there for a limited amount of time (weeks or months). Many of our doctors go to france/germany for one to six months and study/do research there but idk how it actually works.

Yep, this shit is common here too. That's why I hate the hospital life and I'd rather get a FM office or a peds private practice instead. They're usually the commie doctors that are already old as fuck and want to practice until 90 or something like that. Some experience outside will do wonders from what I've heard from other residents/attendings and who knows? If they see you're determined and work hard, they might even offer you a job.

Can't wait for my 6th year to start and see how it will be with all the corona-chan situation. Probably, for us, it will be online again since we're not allowed in the ID ward and ICU but I've got plenty of other specs to go trough too.

I’m glad i only got one semester of that shit and now i’m out and don’t have to. i would go crazy if i had to go another year online like that. specially last year it is all clinical subjects, and i enjoyed even little hospital practice and exposure we had before corona hit. Here it get worse. Oscillates from 400 to 600 daily. Eastern romanians are the dumbest creatures that exist, I swear. They all deny corona-chan, don't want treatment because "I won't let you experiment on me!! let me go home", then come back the next day in a coma directly to the ICU, they even held protests lmao.

The past year, before corona-chan hit I was on peds and surg peds wards, the rest of them (neuro, nephro, GI, etc) no experience at all. I wish I could get some in the 6th year but it all depends on my uni.

Online was pretty cool, I kinda liked the lectures. Comfy in PJs, coffee, taking notes casually but the no clinical experience sucked. Hard.

Hey med. First year med here, really want to drive around on flashing lights but not sure if il enjoy Emergency Medicine. I understand I can sub specialise in pre-hospital med that would be cool but cba sitting around all day by a helicopter waiting for some Fker to have RTC. Theres charities where GP's are supporting the ambulance service by responding in their own time voluntarily in their own private vehicles but none in my area. Also found out in NZ you can drive on flashing greens and normies have to get out of your way during call outs. Maybe I will like emergency medicine but feel like seeing trauma and burns gets boring after a while. Thoughts??

When it comes to emergency med, especially ambu time, think about it like this: Are you able to do that for the rest of your life?

Most of EM physicians get burned out, yes the program is flexible and it's based on a shift schedule but it's a pain in the ass when it comes to polytrauma and they need you in the ER at 3am on your day off.

I think you can volunteer in your free time at the department (Hell, even in my shithole it's possible to do that after taking a few optional courses) and see from there.
