Halstead on cocaine edition

Thread for the discussion of allopathic evidence-based medicine. We discuss research, we DO NOT offer advice (but the best one is to see your family physician), make fun of premeds and pajeet/chink gunners, discuss the Jewish infiltration of medicine and shitpost.

The only anime with doctor's I've seen are:

Durarara! - Underground Medicine
Cells at work - dumb shit desu
Black Jack - Some diseases that do not exist
Monster - Not even close to medicine

And that's it. Nothing worthy =(. I really wish there was something with a family physician and daily cases in rural Japan. It would be amazing.

>>11866106
>study absolutely everyday
For me, weekends are clear from studying unless I have an exam coming up and 2-3 hours every weekday. Clinicals are easy and more than 2-3 hours of swapping between diseases results in brainstorming for me.

But, considering he's a first year (equivalent of dumb premed), not a bad advice.

It still would not work. Take it this way:

1. The healthy person gets blood with extremely high levels of sugar
2. The amount of pure insulin you need to get for the diabetic patient to recover won't be enough. I guess you know that insulin is in small containers and I doubt a non-diabetic patient can provide that much from a single meal.

It's JUST. A. JOKE. I mean, you can change them to Chad vs Virgins or Non-autists vs Autists but it's funnier that way.

Aryan = Chad
Semitic = Virgins that use mental masturbation daily

Is it worth worrying about sporadic pulses/waves of nerve activity in palms and soles? I have palmar and plantar hyperhidrosis and the nerve paresthesia commonly occurs before hyperhidrosis, but it can also happen on its own. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm walking, sitting or lying down, and while it doesn't stay for long it's painful enough to be fairly distracting

how do you study the concepts then? my friend's genius brother told me the only way i can do well is by understanding or making logic out of the concepts but. i can't seem to do that :( i don't want to blame iq and make a self fulfilling prophecy in the process but i don't know what else to do you know. it's also very hard for me to focus. let alone make "logical connections".

>> No.11866712

>>11866706
Not him. IQ is a meme and you don't need to be a genius to study medicine. All you need is work ethic.

Your friend's brother is right about it, you need to learn the mechanism in order to understand a process/concept but you'll find that some of the classes you have won't have such thing (anatomy for example, that's pure memorization). Train yourself to study 4-5 hours/day and gradually decrease that time when clinical rotations come.

You can easily make connections, idk what are you talking about. Give me an example, something you don't understand so I can get an idea what's making your life so hard.

A lot of people wear and reuse the same face mask in their daily NPC life. Moisture from breathe, sweat, drool, and snot accumulate inside of the mask and the warmth from breathe all lead to a perfect breeding ground for bacteria and those reusing their masks are bound inhale it all.

What kind of sicknesses are likely to arise from this? This is all just commonsense to me, I know that bad shit is going to occur from all-day medical mask wearing and, in fact, I want it to start happening now so that people will finally realize how bad it is and nip this by the bud. I don't want to see ALL of the mask-wearing population getting sick.

None. Doctors wear masks a lot and dont get sick from it. Even in a well used mask you just breath in what you breathed out before - that is, stuff you already have in your airways and have an immunity to.

I'm not a doctor yet, but I have wet lucid dreams all the time. Just get good at lucid dreaming on it's own first before you try to jump straight into sex. A problem I had in the beginning was getting to excited when I saw a hot dream character (usually someone you know irl) and then I wake up before I can fuck them. You wake up the moment you cum though in my experience, so it isn't like you're going to be losing gallons of semen or anything. Also, it gets kind of annoying changing your sticky undies/sheets so it probably won't be worth it after awhile.

Sort of, apustaja is a retardspeak version of avustaja, which is helper or assistant.

Lääke would directly translate to drug/medicine/pharmaceutical etc, but I guess in the context it would be interpreted as medicine helper or med helper. It really should be lääkäriapustaja, which would translate to doctor helper. It even reads so on his id card. I guess I was just lazy when I started naming the images.

yeah the baccalaureat test is pretty bullshit sometimes
your entire life future is based on your performance one week when you're 18
Basically how it works is since most good universities are state owned, the state provides a limited amount of seats and abroad scholarships. You have to wait in line to pick a spot depending on your ranking. Also the spots depend on your sepecialty in high school.
I was ranked 50 in the maths specialty so I was just shy of a french or german state scholarship and I didn't wanna do maths in uni so I picked the only other best thing.
Given how few jobs we have, there isn't any variety in the choices at the top so the 4 med schools and the few good engineering schools end up always with a top something condition depending on the specialty.

>> No.11878461

Welp, as promised here's the first part of lectures; I suggest you save them somewhere else because I don't know how long they will last before getting pulled down
These are the non-clinics and base sciences courses: I think I miss the calculus one but I don't really care about it.
Next I'll share the clinics but only after i'm getting back from a little vacation (which I'm doing instead of studying for my specialization exam, trying not to think much about it).

Maybe,
Severe anaemia causes hypoxia which is sensed by arterial chemoreceptors which induce a release of catecholamines norepinephrine and epinephrine from the adrenal medulla. At the juxtaglomerular apparatus of the kidney, the juxtaglomerular cells express the b1 receptor. Circulating epinephrine is a natural agonist at b1 and activates the juxtaglomerular cells (through a Gs protein system) to release granules of renin. Renin then goes on to cleave angiotensinogen (synthesised in the liver) into angiotensin I, which undergoes further cleaving into angiotensin II (ATII) by ACE located in the lungs. ATII goes on to activate ATII(1) receptors on the posterior pituitary to induce the release of ADH. ADH then mediates the thirst response.

I have to disagree that the narcissism is a new thing. The 18th-19th century was filled with glory-seeking men who named all sorts of body parts and diseases after themselves. The amount of unethical shit that happened to patients was pretty fucking bad. The four humours system was the most prevalent schema for a millenium because the greats said so. Prestige was already a huge deal when physicians and surgeons were two separate occupations. Semmelweis was mocked when he suggested physicians wash their hands.

Not trying to be a schizo and I definitely don't mean to say that medicine is bad but I guess my point is medfags have always had narc tendencies.

we certainly do need more doctors in the west, atleast in the US, the doctors are way overburdened with useless shit and patients, and the wages for doctors have remained fairly stagnant since the 1980s.

The rich doctor Hollywood trope is just that, most docs that have graduated in the last 10 years probably have a student loan of around 300k-500k to pay off and then work 80-100 hours without compensation sometimes.
Medicine is pretty grim in US, lots of hype very little substance
Also thanks to lots of lawsuits and constant anti doctor propaganda, most doctors are now required to spend 60% of their time charting for the patients and 15% on admin work, so that leaves around 25% time with meeting, diagnosing and treating patients

Can I trust a phone camera to assess baldness? My right temple has been slowly receding since April and my hair started feeling thinner so I began taking progress photos of the crown and sides. The sides seem to be thinning out and there's a bald spot on my crown in the photos, but friends and family tell me they can't see shit. Which one is it? I'd go to a derm but I'm scared of making a fool out of myself.

Isn't it because you guys started training NPs and PAs to asses the shortage of physicians and instead you got even more patients for the physicians?

Imo, I think that reducing the strictness of medical school in US should be the solution. It requires all your dedication and if you're not from a rich family you have to pick a part time job, etc. and that immediately puts you at a disadvantage because those who stay at home can study freely and gun for a spec they like. And it's not just about the speciality of choice, it's also about the fact that you need publications and I personally don't see why you'd need them when they're not even that important or "revolutionary". Resident should make publications, not students. (Unless they want to, and I doubt many of them want to).

Found something interesting.

>The present study was designed to better understand the direct effects of acoustic vibrations, in the form of music, in human cells in culture. Our results suggest that the mechanisms of cell growth arrest and/or cell death induced by acoustic vibrations are similar for auditory and nonauditory cells.

But it's used against cancerous cells, so idk about the ones inside our body that are not cancerous.
