How worthwhile is it to take graduate level math courses while in undergrad? I’m at a top 10 program in US so the undergrad courses have been pretty rigorous.

You’re doing a PhD in pure math right? It’s extremely important, it’s not really expected that you’ve published or done research as an undergrad simply because the level you need to get to for pure math research is so high, but getting a passing grade in a grad level course at a top school shows grad programs you can and will be successful in the coursework and helps you get prepared to start research sooner - and, if it does lead to a research project, even better!

Thanks for the answer. I’m going to industry for a bit but want to keep grad school as an option a year or two out.

I’ll definitely look to take some grad level courses then. As a quick follow up, is the number of courses taken as critical as people make it out to be? I’m a double major and go to a school with loads of distribution reqs, so the most I could take next year would be 3-4.
