Why do we always assume that aliens are more technologically advanced than us?

Who's to say we're not leagues ahead of other life in the universe, or on equal footing with some other intergalactic lifeforms?

It wasn't long before Tesla's ditched the battery and took it wirelessely, harmonic wave healing freed itself from pseudoscience.. Smith & Weston mass manufactured a scalar assult rifle.. We just couldn't get to the interstellar terraform stage quickly enough to satiate the every growing dramaticism of the technology.

In short a new multipolar cold war was back, not subtended by secret Ayy technology held only by the deepstate, MAD returned from its psyop role to prime causal defense policy. Earth on the brink of yet another pole shift mud flood, when the space natsocs make their move.

In every language of every brain, even in dolphin, cow, dog, cat, raven, and more. They managed to secretly advance the technology laid out by the werner von braun program in antarctica and have been on a massive mission of diplomacy on behalf of all humanity in the cosmos. Sure the allies 'won' the war, in exchange for forfeiting the right to extra-solar representation to the galactic space reich. That doesn't necessarily mean they're more advanced. There could be something similar to ocean currents (but different than solar wind) flowing through the universe that we haven't discovered yet but they've stumbled upon. They don't know how it works any more than 15th century explorers did. Another possibility is that a moderate tech civilization comes across the ruins of an advanced civilization and gets space travel technology from them. Once again, they don't understand how it works, it just does. Most passengers on airplanes have no idea how they work either. A third possibility is an advanced civilization that goes into decline but still has access to black box type tech for travelling. Like the other two scenarios, they don't understand the technology but they can use it.
You could even make the case for primitive or species without consciousness ending up with space travel technology of some other civilization or specie's design.

in that time we have achieved spaceflight, quantum computing, the internet and many other technological marvels

If they have technology to get here, they're clearly more advanced than us. Space travel doesn't just happen. Evolution couldn't happen easily in space, there would be no competition, no selection.
