How are Data Analyst/Data Science recruiters so fucking dumb?

Just told this girl I have an MS in math and stats, a few actuary exams, and a few years of experience in data science/machine learning. Then she asked “what experience do you have with statistics?”
I want to say “I’ve never met a recruiter so clueless about the job” but this is pretty normal.

>> No.11808954

It was offensive talking to someone that fucking clueless.

Most people are fucking retarded. That's the way it is.

She probably meant like a list of specific statistics-related things you've done. Techniques you've used, whatever.

From the recruiting side of a job in a different field, I'm used to people listing off lots of qualifications but then never being able to actually name any specific thing they've ever done.

It's like fizzbuzz. Also, if it was an HR recruiter, they're just trying to tick off boxes. Don't take it personally. They probably ask everyone the same thing, regardless of their qualifications or job experience.

Well anon, what experience with statistics do you actually have?

She wanted to know if you are a name dropper. >Hurr durr had a few actuary exams
Yeah fine, but what have you actually done that is typically regarded as statistics?
> Hurr durr did a Master in Math and stats
Yes, but what have you actually done?
> Hurr durr everyone is so stupid how can you be so low IQ?

I agree with the other anons, I think they wanted specific examples. Like multivariate, missing value imputation, outlier analysis, etc...

this is unbelievably retarded.
it makes no sense whatsoever to test for namedroppers specifically. if anon is namedropping, he is also lying about his credentials. if he's lying about his credentials, it makes no fucking difference whether he understands jargon. if anon's claims are are true, then he trivially knows the jargon. if anon doesn't know the jargon, then his claims are trivially false. BUT HE CAN STILL FAKE KNOWING THE WORDS WHILE BEING UNQUALIFIED YOU FUCKING RETARD, SO WHY ARE YOU TESTING FOR PSEUDS

>HURR DURR YOU CLAIM TO BE A DOCTOR BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT A BONE IS?

Experience is not just taking a course in it. List off projects, work experience, and the specific statistical analyses you did you autistic sperg. They want to know you can explain it.

>OP failed a simple interview because his autism caused a very simple question to trigger a powerful superiority complex response
I would have dismissed you for your utter lack of social interactions.
>Statistics is irrelevant he raged to himself
Says the guy being interviewed, you dont get to control the game you just gotta play it. Blows me away how many retards on this board think high technical proficency somehow excuses their utter lack social dynamics and how to successfully integrate into a business/professional enviornment. Ive had interviewers ask me about all kinds of shit that was outside the scope of the position or even completely off topic. Time to be big boy start adapting to situations instead of rigidly fighting through them.

I was thinking about this, I don’t mean this cruelly, but I think you might benefit from interview training. Interviewing is a skill that needs to be learned and practiced. Finding a job is already crazy difficult enough.

No-nothing chad here, just got a 6 fig data science job straight out of uni. I didn't take a single stats paper. Literally had to look up what 'statistically significant means yesterday. No larp.

Lmfao me too. That said I actually do have a pretty good handle on stats and ML because I did a fair bit of research in those subjects in uni and put out papers, however knowing how to ask the right questions/how to explain results to execs in an easily digestible manner is more important for this type of work imo. This requires confidence though.

tl;dr get familiar with R and learn2flexdashboard so you can give the execs a good dashboard which frees up time to do more interesting analysis
