What’s the solution? AA is full of idiots and social rejects. I want to stop but I end up falling back into it. The only thing I look forward to is drinking.

it did in my case. Before weed was legalized in my state I would frequently run out, as I'm asocial and can't find dealers easily. During these times I would invariably drink heavily, but my alcoholism has ceased now since recreational cannabis is trivial to purchase.

Non memeing or anything silly. You need to get to the bottom of why you're like this. I'm struggling with the same. Currently, I'm at the point where I think I'm better than life with all these fellow human animals (I'm more enlightened though). I've reduced by recent uptake of alcohol with some weed. Hang in there til death.

Look at the state of the world. Drinking yourself to death might not be the worst of fates.

Find out the trigger behind it. Write down each time you drink and why you started to drink. Once you know what triggers your habbit, it's easier to replace it with something good, like doing 10 pushups or whatever you want to achieve. Just quitting won't do because your brain will need to resolve the trigger. It's not easy, but it's doable. Just don't do what my dad did with cigs, he replaced them with food and now he's fat.

I’ve gone two years sober before, but the obsession was still there. I had to make a conscious decision every time I was alone not to drink. I guess I’m asking if there is a way to end the fixation. I know it’s ultimately willpower, but why is my desire so much stronger? Why, when I drink, do I get snake eyes and become a different person?

2 years sober here, I don't think my fixation has ever been as strong as yours but I just keep ignoring it, over and over again. Psychedelics also helped.

Marijuana addictions are pretty easy to deal with. You cannot die from marijuana withdrawals.

Honestly? The worst part about addiction is that it's like the psychological counterpart to cancer, the problem isn't "alcoholism" the problem is you. There are neurological components but changing neurology directly is damn near impossible for stuff like this and you're better off fixing your psychology and hoping it trickles down. Honestly, if you have good friends, lean on them, whether that means renting a cabin for a month and having them taper you off, or crying into someone's shirt every once in a while. If you don't want the life that no alcohol affords you more than the alcohol, you will relapse, you have to enjoy yourself.
