The best thing for STEM would be more focus on practical experiments in primary and high school. So many kids don't see any practical use for it because they are never shown one.

By doing 2 educational tracks: One for students who are gifted in STEM courses and one which is more aimed towards trades or the arts. That way math teachers don't have to deal with a bunch of dumbasses and can focus more of their time teaching the kids who are better at STEM subjects.

Also this is a myth really. US scores well if you include Asian Americans/White only. Its really dragged down the gutter by the african americans (more than 100 points difference if you compare to Asian Americans) and hispanics (50 points difference between whites/hispanics)

this might be reasonable if you throw out the CS crap beyond data structures, push everything back a year, and leave the 12th year shit for college. Your kid doesn't need to learn OS/security/networking, leave that for the silicon valley wagies.

In any case, I think it's better to set your kid up to take a first course in analysis/algebra in their first semester of college. I had to wait until my second year because freshman year was full of mandatory lower division crap like calc 1-3, linalg and discrete math. Have your kid take that in CC parallel to high school, it also helps with college admissions.

How? Easy. Get rid of the no child left behind bullshit. The kid can't do basic functions in algebra and you pass him on to geometry and algebra 2? Of course the kid is just going to sleep in class, why should they be awake when they don't even have the prerequisite knowledge to even participate in the class? Why are we so focused on passing kids through classes when they don't have the fundamental understanding of what the class was about? I think this is a fundamental problem that doesn't get enough focus.
