There's some gorgeous life in prehistory, and it's worthy of talking about. Got a favourite species? Favourite era in history? Anything evocative that brings up that primordial feeling one gets when pondering that ancient past like a forest or piece of music or a picture?

To know where you're going, you must first know where you've been.

The nearest alien world is the one that was here before we were born.

Awesome period. Devonian, Carboniferous and Permian are the best. Love me some ammonites, trilobites, lobe-finned fish, lung fish and awesome arthropods.

Oh yeah! Also pictured: Hallucigenia, Marella, and a species I can't remember the name of.

Anyone who can should buy Prehistoric Life: The Definitive Visual History Of Life On Earth by DK books. Best book I've got for images of this sort of thing.

Any kind of Dromaeosaur. I'm obsessed with all of them. Such perfect elegant graceful yet efficient forms.

Terror birds are cool too. The cambrain explosion, PT extinction are both really exciting/interesting.

My favourite era is Jurassic/Cretaceous boundary- look up the world map. Shit bricks at all the tropical oceans and shallow seas. Beaches and rainforests everywhere with shallow lagoons and lakes.
