Guyse, hear me out. The acute effects of HIV are very mild "like a flu". And if you got it, you wouldn't think much about it. It's until years later that the medical community would identify a chronic dormant, incurable virus that'll fuck you up. What if the corona symptoms we see are only the acute phase, and we just haven't had time to see the chronic, deadly phase? Not memeing. Virologist opinion welcome.

Some viruses can hide deep in tissue that the immune system can't reach, so it's entirely possible OP.

It's also possible there's long term bodily damage this virus causes that we're just not aware of yet. There are signs it can infect the brain and cause brain damage. The most obvious signs of this are loss of taste and smell, but there are other indications this may be happening.

Honestly, we don't know what the long term effects will be.
