New on /sci/. Can anyone redpill me in Trump's Space Force? How realistic is this actually gonna be. Will it be the beginning of easier space travel and/or even beat out NASA in space exploration?

>Can anyone redpill me in Trump's Space Force?
It has already existed in various pieces spread across the other branches of the military and other agencies. Trump just made them into one cohesive organization due to a potential threat to critical US space assets from foreign powers. And even then, it was going to happen eventually. If not Trump, then someone else.

>Will it be the beginning of easier space travel
No. They'll mainly focus on the hardware that's already up there (GPS, spy sats, communications, etc) and replacing them when needed.

>or even beat out NASA in space exploration?
No. NASA will always have the edge in space exploration in terms of government programs. What will lead the charge in space exploration would be private companies however. They have the capacity to even beat NASA.

it's about getting the satellite desk jockeys out from underneath the fighter pilots, and getting all the space spending in one place

Do you think they're finally going to try and build Star Wars? Are they going to try and lock countries they don't like out of orbit (inc. their civilian programs)?

>How realistic is this actually gonna be
Its already real.

>Will it be the beginning of easier space travel
Depends on what they do with funds.

>even beat out NASA in space exploration
SpaceX will be the ones beating NASA at this rate. So if there's any horse Space Force will pick, it will be SpaceX.

Locking other countries out of orbit would violate the Outer Space Treaty, in peace time obviously. Setting up weapons to take out other countries' space assets in the event of a shooting war is perfectly fine, as long as they are not WMDs.
