Would any of the research be useful anywhere else?

I don't know if string theory can be disproved. It's basis uses eigenmodes to describe physical phenomena. It's pretty likely that anything can be described in that way. If something is wrong just add more epicycles as they say.

Nonetheless string theory has important implications for group theory and number theory involving discretization. Witten might make an eternal mark on pure mathematics of all things.

>hurr durr string theory bad! Unfalsfiable!

W and Z boson took 50 years to be directly verified. Similarly, gravitational wave took 100 years and Higgs boson took 48 years.

I always wonder why brainlets who can't even understand linear algebra talk about string theory. These brainless mobs never mention any technical things and just always repeat 'muh testable prediction'.

'String theory bad' is totally equivalent NPC's crying to 'orange man bad'

String theory is not science because the mathematical models it uses are so flexibility you can get it to output any result you want. So string theory hasn’t and literally never will make any measurable predictions that can be tested. It is mathematical sophistry, nobody in science takes it seriously.

The number of unique string theories you can have is something like the number of planck volumes you would have if you doubly nested a full-scale universe inside every planck volume of the visible universe.

Has string theory even made ANY testable prediction at all?
String theory can adapt to practically any new discoveries,
and I'd assume it has already been thoroughly checked for coherence.
Not sure, if that makes it "waste", but it certainly doesn't help.

Bro, Einstein developed a new gravitacional theory. Today we do not say that Newton was wrong, we just say that his theory was incomplete. Newton theory is not a waste of time, it is just a step forward. BWT. We now know that General Relativity is incomplete, we we are still looking for the step forward.

>What happens if string theory is disproven

What happens if Newtons laws are disproven?

Nothing at all, they ARE wrong, BUT for all the data he had at the time they were correct.

Time dilation, relativity, quantum events, etc. were all to be observed later.

String theory is the best theory we have NOW with the observations we have NOW.
