In humans, expectations of future consequences cause present actions. Subsequently, the causative architecture of our actions is reverse from that of ordinary matter and energy, in which events of the past are the ascribed as causes for events in the present. In the instance of present actions derived from a moral sensibility, the actor desires "not to become" a person who engages in an immoral act X, and it is again the conception of a future, specifically of the future self, driving the present action. The principle of reversal temporal causality is one which derives from our instinct to manipulate and control our experience, however subtly or unconsciously, which is common to many living animals.
