Descartes, french philosopher and mathematician, once said the famous phrase "cogito ergo sum", which translates to "I think, thus I am".
In the portuguese language, the verb to lift or to raise translates to "erguer". In particular, the verb can be conjugated to the first person present as "ergo."
On a completely underlated note, a great brazillian philosopher once said "cogito ergo penis."
